Why don't you financially support devs you really like?

I do support some, but obviously can't afford all. I'm disabled and get about $1000/month. 50 and live with my parents due to not being able to afford anything on that AND too many things I can't do. If I outlive them I'd have to go to an assisted living unless one of my cousins could take me in (no siblings.)

Because i am unemployed. When I had a job, I supported them all.

I'm curious to know why some people do not financially support devs they really like so these devs can work full time on their VNs.

Is it because you can't or because you know you'll have the update for free later (stinginess)?

Personally I've supported devs sporadically but I can't anymore because of my nightmarish financial situation (bad choices back in 2020, my bank won't let go until I'm out of it in 10 years from now ?)
Because I have over 500 games here, I would simply go bankrupt.

sadly I have no money. I would love to support so many and sometime feel bad about not, but I am on low income, like just living and so, at the moment not abele to, but if I can afford, I would love to. They do such hard work and deserve to make some cash from their creations.

I don't have enough money to support all the projects I like.

It would be nice if I could, because that would mean I was rich, when in reality I'm poor as fuck.

Got fired.

After that I tightened my budget so I can't support anyone on SS or Ratreon. (Yes, I misspelled Patreon because I think the staff are rats.)

I do, until it seems they're milking or sandbagging releases/features/story updates to string donors along. There's a difference between slow burn and "releases 10 minutes of content every month just so they can say 'monthly updates!'".

I do. By buying their finished products.

The new paradigm seems to be hiding, "games as a service" behind, "development". I think people 'round here call that behavior, "Milking." I do not support it that. I also do not support peoples' hobbies. So, no Patreon or the like, form me. Sell me a fucking game/book/art and move the fuck on.

im poor, and most games are still WIP or under development. id defintely pay up for some of them though

I supported westy for over a year.

I could use more explanation...

Do you mean, you supported a dev only for someone else to pull the rug out from under you making you wary/shy from supporting other devs?

Do you mean, you support the projects you like, regardless of any outside or societal pressure?

I honestly do not know hot to read your comment (y)

I supported EvaKiss for some time ... right now I can't due to financial situation but I'll support some as soon as I can. They are worth every dollar.

I did too, until I had enough of the constant fucking around with variables requiring a new save. Support a few now though.

I'd support one I actually believe will finish a game...which means near the 1.0 release I'll throw some money at them. I've seen too many devs see money roll in and then development slows to a crawl. Fuck that noise.

Yeah I understand they have bills to pay, but for most of the developers out there this is a side gig, or labor of love they are trying to get paid for.

This new era of pay me for early access and you get to see a snippet of the game is bullshit.

sooooo many games are unfinished blueballs fests. I hate the subscription model anyway, with so much of our media becoming subscription based. I dont mind buying a finished, polished product that I'm confident is worth the money, but shelling out money each month to someone's subscribestar so they can post teasers and updates on an unfinished VN is just usually not my jam :P

It would be different if i could know ahead of time, but its hard to even see screenshots before you buy

I've often been disappointed by devs who just take us for cash cows.
