Why do you dislike AI art in games?

"Ai art is trained on other art so it's essentially stealing it."

This is really no different than when people create art. Nothing comes out of a vacuum. You either copy directly or you draw inspiration from other peoples work and make it your own. make it something new or better.
There's a pretty big difference in the way that ai breaks down and repurposes it's training data than how humans do.

AI doesn't identify concepts and rework them into a new idea. It simply takes the training images and blends the pieces together. It's why there's so much inconsistency and yet all of it is still kinda the same, or why it can't "fill" a glass of wine, or why thor is always gonna look like Marvel's thor rather than mythological thor even if you tell it not to

For me the problem is mostly consistency and originality. I prefer hand-drawn art because the artist can be consistent with characters and style, and often the characters are original. Hand-drawn animations are straight gas, too. AI generally doesn't "sex" well, and consistency can vary wildly without a lot of training on constrained data.

Most AI images seems to be both similar and inconsistent. There are some solutions - I've seen AI images that looked quite good and was able to generate images of specific characters. But that seems to require specific training and customization. And generally things using AI generation don't seem to want to put in the effort to do that.

Ai art is trained on other art so it's essentially stealing it. The servers that house these systems use up so much water for cooling that it hurts the environment, especially when you remember most of this is hosted in Silicon Valley where water is more scarce. Finally, it looks terrible. There's this uncanny feeling to it that makes it weird. Even without the messed up hands that still plague many ai depictions, I can pretty much tell at a glance if it was ai or hand drawn.

Using ai in stead of just hiring an artist or learning to draw shows that you don't care. Furthermore, its not even art. To quote what someone said about ai fanfiction: "why should I be bothered to read something you couldn't be bothered to write?" The sentiment stands for all uses of ai creation in my mind. If you're not going to create something worthwhile then why should anyone care to play it?
Amen, kind of like playing pirated video games, hate that ish...

Honestly it just causes a disconnect with the enjoyment. I feel a little more invested knowing a person created it. Just feels artificial (no pun intended) for it to be made with ai.

I avoid any games that has the AI tag. I dont even click on the game out of curiosity.

Few reaons:

1. I dont like the typical artstyle of AI. It has this cold and lifeless look to it. Its uncanny and everything comming out of AI just looks the same.

2. Limitations - i kind of know if its an AI game then it will be a game of still images in a style i dont really like and with no animations.

3. Biggest reason is that im going to assume u dont care that much about ur project or story - so why would i even check it out. If u had passion for ur project and thought u had a great idea for a game u would probably use more than the bare minimum effort on making it come alive. U dont choose AI because it has amazing features for storytelling or that everyone likes the style - u use it for the simple reason that its easy.

AI art just looks bad compared to human made art in 99% of the cases i see. Also i'm pretty much against the current AI-hype bs in general, due to how resource inefficient it is and how it takes jobs away from people to produce sub-par products.

All 3 of these points hit the nail on the head for me. All of the AI art is the same. I can ID it from a distance. There's almost always no animation to it, other than jiggling the image around (If you're lucky).
I understand that not everyone is an artist. I can't draw for shit. But I'd much rather play a game that's from the heart with some inexperienced hand-draw art than the same AI face over and over.

If you know how to properly create images it can be pretty good but a lot of it is just the same stuff over and over unfortunately.

Ai is ok but the lack of effort is what kinda triggers me it feels cheap I'm not saying all but most of the Ai games I've played were really bad

This might be nothing but feels too smooth and the lack of creativity just doesn't do it for me some like it a lot but it's just isn't for me

AI art has made it possible for absolutely anyone to create a game. And it turned out that not everyone should be given such an opportunity.

difficult to always reproduce the same face, and the animations lack fluidity (for the moment)

If someone knows how to use the ai to get good pics I don't have an issue

Personally i'm unconvinced on either arguement. I think it makes game creation more accessible but perhaps overshadows the work of arists.
Still have yet to make my mind up about it would in interested in hearing some other reasons for/against

it's lazy as shit, it looks terrible, it's inconsistent, and it can't make anything that's not a reskin of a scan from hustler

mostly text games might get away with it, like they have little stolen anime images from time to time as visuals but that's it.

but if you didn't care enough to create it yourself, i don't care enough to play it.
