cuz they're usually walking simulators, even during cutscenes u gotta wait for npc to walk out of screen to continue gameplay

If I wanted graphics like the map uses, I'd open up my Commodore 64 emulator and play some games from the 80s I played back then. Granted, not adult games, but the vast majority of devs that would use RPGmaker make shitty games anyway.

Was covered by others pretty well, but my biggest gripes with RPG maker games in general pretty much boil down to comparative difficulty in modding, crappy sound/resolution options, and the poor attempts at making non-rpg games with it.
To me it's a bit archaic, but good at what it does. But what it does is making RPGs not VNs, and I'm generally looking for VNs as opposed to RPGs.

no saving during the scenes, no autoplay, bad interface, most have a stupid battle system that is being forced upon you, too much wandering around without a good reason, too much repetition (at least in renpy you can skip much faster), etc.

It's less about the RPGM itself, but how devs utilize it.
For me there are 4 major points that always bugs me.

1. Many games don't need that battle system the engine provides, apart from it being boring and overused, too often it ends in a tedious unnecessary grindfest.
It's often used by the dev just becaus it's already there and then even without changing the default settings or adapting it to the world/story.

2. Then you have the maps and the movment. The maps have to look pretty so they tend to be big. But this always ends in constant running around from point A to point B and back and and forth. Again something unnecessary in many games and you spend most of the time runing around.

3. At it's core nearly all games look the same, because neither the tilesets nor the character sprites gets personalization. If one sees a screnshot of one game without any of the lewd images, they literally look the same.

4. The engine is easy to use and makes it even easier to make a game, a generic game, an unimaginative generic game. Most of those games aren't good or even downright crap.

Are all games like that? Of course not. But I don't want to spend my time and energy to filter through all the games just to find the few ones that aren't super generic.
That's why my first thought whenever I see the typical RPGM graphics is sadly: "Urgh"
Luckily of many of those games you can find the CG on sites like hitomi.la that have galleries.
You nailed it on the head with this. I 100% agree about these kind of games not needing the tedious grind, it always feels antithetical to the point of the kinds of stories we come here for. I'll admit, I've seen some that are actually pretty fun, but those are few and far between. Way too many times I've gotten started in one and noped out real quick once I picked up that first fetch quest or had to wander around 17 different map screens just to get to the next place you needed to be.

There is something weird with the characters looking like they are from a Super Nes game like Final Fantasy III. Because its a software to make RPGS.

I like it if its for a 2D game - trying to add 3dcg to it gets a little wierd in my opinion.
I know some people don't care much for a sandbox experience, which is fine.

quite a few game i enjoy came from RPGM, the Sequel games, a lot of kagura games, MGQ paradox. to name a few i am curious to see why they get a lot of hate compared to other engines.
Somehow I just don't like how it looks

For me it's good for some things however I feel it's quite tedious, prefer Ren'Py however I do like ToN (Treasure of Nadia) and that's RPGM. Each to their own though

most people aren't going to admit it... depending on the game a lot of rpgm need 2 hands.......

ok a lot of the reason is the devs for those games don't always thing the grind thing through. too much grind not enough titillating. add to that is that they aren't put together that well part of the time where it just doesn't work right or so on..

Really, any grind whatsoever is a bad thing, but RPGmaker games tend to really go over the top with it.

There's a few RPGM games I like despite the engine, but the controls always feel so clunky, and menus and inventory and shit always seem to be a massive hassle in them

Grind, and unnecessary mechanics. While it's not the worse thing in the world, its just that Renpy is just so much better.
