Pet Peeves, not genres, but when opening files.

There are some things that annoy me when obtaining these games.

First, when I download a zip file and then unzip it, I like it to be unpacked into its own game folder, so I try to do it in a temporary folder in case it's not. It really sucks when a file is scattered throughout a bigger folder and one needs to gather them all to place them together.

The second is that I hate when you open a game and it starts in full screen. This is especially troublesome with Unity, RPGM, and Unreal, where it takes a minute to get to a settings screen to minimize them. Some Renpy are just as bad, and I usually open a game just to see if they work and then walk off busy with other things. These are the moments that unexpected others walk in, and seconds count when fiddling to close them.

I am just curious about others thoughts and what annoys them, such as the sound always being set at the highest level. Yes, I know that I can mute my PC, but the devs could also make the starting default less conspicuous.

Any other pet peeves?

For the first one, download the program 7zip, you can double click the zip file then it will open it up showing the contents, from there you can see if you need to choose to make a subfolder (which is simple as choosing to right click and extract as it's own folder) or just extract it directly into the current folder you're inside of. That's what I've always done anyways myself and never have issues.
The second one I completely agree with but that's mostly because I have an ultrawide monitor so it opening in full screen completely stretched out everything and if the game didn't think ahead for ultrawide monitors I can't even get to the settings sometimes and have to figure out the keyboard shortcut to take it out of fullscreen.
I can't really say I personally have any pet peeves other than maybe it not actually being the game I downloaded but that hasn't happened in forever lol

Probably when you click on the file and the game starts but, it starts on a black screen and bam the sound or music starts blasting.

im with you I unpack into a games folder so when it just explodes all over my folder instead of going into its own neatly it pisses me off

Loud volume by default is annoying

but I developed habit of dropping computer sound to lowest above mute when opening new game and only bringing back up to good level after configuring volume in game settings.

I generally only like very quiet bgm, and I notice a hell of a lot of rpgm games make it annoying to make it so due to having volume step in 20% only. Also as a fellow person somewhat said above, lack of ultrawide support or lack of forcing aspect ratios in fullscreen.

Using NanaZip, which is a fork of 7zip, you can right click on an archive and extract with the "smart" option. It'll add a parent directory if there is none in the archive and wont if there is already a parent directory. But if you just want to stick with the more popular 7zip, using the "extract to {archiveName}\" option, which just always adds a parent directory regardless if there is one in the archive.

In most cases you can use Alt+Enter or F11 to toggle fullscreen for games. Sometimes that is the only way to toggle fullscreen for some games as they dont include the option in UI settings.

I use 7-Zip as well, and that is usually how I do it, especially with mods and place files in their own folder, but it's that one time when I am in a hurry and forget, things will screw up. I never heard of NanaZip; I will check it out.

Also, I almost always mute my PC beforehand, but again, the one time I don't one of my 'Tenants' will come strolling in and it can be difficult to act casual trying to remember and hit buttons in a split second.

So when all else fails, I just blame it on the 'Roommate.'

I always right click on the zip file and choose "extract to *zip file name*". This extracts the content to a folder that has the same name as the zip file. Because 80% of the time there are many file in there.

Downloaded 7zip on my new computer and now I can't extract directly. Have to "open" and then "extract".

It takes two seconds and isn't a big deal but it still bugs the hell out of me! Not enough to solve the problem but enough to annoy...

Right click and extract files (not extract here)

It will always put it in it's own folder

99% of games will already be in it's own folder and you will have a double folder but the 1% that's not is really annoying if it gets dumped into your main folder

Never realy bothered me when it needs to be extracted. Games on steam unlocked work the same way so jm used to it
