If you're going to have voice acting it's better to have it at the start instead of being added later on. Spending years with a character who's voice you've had for them in your head not matching the official one when it's added later feel jarring

I play these games with sound muted so i generally view voicing for them as devs wasting time. Instead of spending time on voicing id rather devs use that time to either improve their writing or visuals.

voicing can be a nice addition for sure but the focus should be on the writing first

I like it when it's done well. I think it adds to the game. I even like the music, but I normally turn it down pretty low.

I mute everything but every once in awhile if the VA is good it's nice to sit back and listen

Usually if it's a japanese VN i wait and see if the VA is too obnoxious. If it's a western, indie VN i will without a doubt mute it.
With that said, i did play Lust Epidemic with voices on... i don't know why though, it didn't seem jarring in that game.

As in all things. Regardless of the medium, it it well done, sure. Problem is, it rarely is.

A Japanese VN sounds good but I think it's cause I'm used to watch anime and play JRPG since child. When I find a western VN that have voices it's usually a AI. What makes it awfull. A robot without soul. In this cases, mute all.

I'll give it a go an just play on mute if I don't like it. AI ones are terrible though so I just mute from the start.

I don't like VN voices. I systematically mute all sounds.

Don't care for voiced VNs. I read faster than they speak and can't be bothered waiting for them to finish.

That's a big problem, too even if the voices are done by people. Usually you can just click and it will skip to the next lines. If you couldn't that would be an extreme problem.
