What game engine do you prefer adult games to use?

Renpy 100%. I cannot get behind unity after their last fiasco. If a company is willing to make a BS move once, they are willing to do it again. RPG maker is a 'meh' engine to me.
I wonder is open source game engines like Godot will grow in adult games after that, mainly with new games of the developers that use Unity currently on their current projects

I'll try any system, but some games definitely have an optimal system, to the point they're nearly unplayable if it's the wrong system.
I agree, I have more than once ran across a game where I just said, "Yeah, I am done. This is not working." Could be from the way they had something implemented, like some save systems. There was one game I cant remember right now which was trying to do way to much that stressed to system they were using to the limits that it was almost breaking or it was. And I think their response to it was just because they wanted to use that system/felt comfortable or did not know another system.

sounds like some of those poorly optimized "sandbox" "free roam" games that send your CPU core to 9000 and your fans turn into jet engines

Of course, if a system simply doesn't work for a game, you could write your own, like that dev who made Total Seduction(?) and Lust Warlock. Think he wrote the entire game engine for it. Or the Kronos Time Titan dev, who did the same.

I have not found that happened to me with those. But poorly optimized games will do that regardless, especially unity based games.

Only renpy, besides being the most convenient and fastest engine for novels, has handy auto-translators for it. Unity also has an auto-translator, but as many times as I've tried to play with it, it's a slow pain. Also I can't imagine how to play without urm anymore.

despite the cool gameplay elements, I cant stand RPGMaker, and I really don't want to look at any pixel graphics in a porn game whatsoever. I mostly like simple VN style games, so Ren'py is a good fit, its my favorite. Admittedly some Unity ones can be good too, especially if they have a Ren'py style save slot system, but I don't often give them a chance unless the thumbnail/banner/preview art really wows me.

Not sure what system it uses, but I really did like how Aurelia (I believe it was called) did their art. Some pixel art that almost wouldnt look like pixel art. Though scale also probably plays a role in it.

As I've gotten older, my patience for sandbox games, whether RPGM or Ren'Py or whatever, has diminished drastically. Twine is probably the least objectionable for those types of games.

Ren'py is just the easiest to deal with as a user, rarely run into problems. always has features like galleries and walkthrough mods, easy to rollback for savepoints.

Unreal Engine and unity win my votes every day. You can just do such a great deal of things within the two engines

Ren'py and unity. But actually developer skills and commitment is most important thing. So many games dropped in the middle of story..

Ren'py for mods, html so i can mod it myself and Rpgm dead last

90% of the games I play are in Ren'py. Anytime I play games elsewhere I find some feature to be more inconvenient.

I'm also a huge fan of the Universal Ren'py mod, as I like to see where ALL the choices are leading me. Do any other engines have a universal mod you can use with them?

Renpy lol and that's about it. RPGM is so terrible I hate using it.

Ren'py or a custom engine is fine. It feels like it's super hard to make a good VN type experience in RPG maker.
