discussion Should games have music, yes or no?

Having music for a game really adds to the experience. I think having music is a must if you want to make a good game, but make sure the music doesn't feel out of place.

I think so, yes! Even ambience, but in the topic of just music, 100%. I didn't grow up playing a lot of Nintendo, but I did sit idle by all the time watching my older family play. Other kids my age weren't allowed because sticky and dirty kids of course. I have always been fascinated of music in games, particularly games that has "levels". Nowadays those levels are just different areas and instead of harder obstacles, the challenges are stronger enemies and environment = high risk high reward. You may start the game with calm and peaceful music. Even your first battle themes are not so much of a banger, but everything changes when you get stronger in the game. Sometimes the gear you earn or the enemies you meet queue you in on how strong you're getting, but the MUSIC will let you know what kind of threat you're going up against. To win or lose, if the music is a banger, I always go back to it!

For adult games, I would say if the music is good and matches the aesthetic of the game, 100%. If the music is just a filler theme and is overplayed, especially if it's a reused theme from other games, then I lower the volume of the in game music. The music helps me get through those quiet moments.

If it belongs in the current scene, then yes, I don't mind it, in fact I like it. Stagnant music on the other hand, like music that's there just to be there, then I'll actually just mute the music altogether.
