Most of the time the first thing I do is turn off the music, because it doesnt fit with general tempo of the game or grabs too much attention so its bad as background.

But it is great to have some background ambient sounds like wind, birds, rain, cars...

Problem is a lot of devs pick something loud and/or annoying. I always either turn it WAY down from default or if it's annoying mute it

Sometimes yeah, it can be great for setting the mood. There have to be options for that stuff though as sometimes it just does not fit.

The music is an important thing in all the "seventh art" creation. Some music can make a film really great (like Sergio Leone+Ennio Morricone western or the Rocky saga). For the VN is the same. The music must be appropriate to the moment, must emphasize, involve the player, It should not be thrown there randomly.
The ambient souds are also very important, more than the music itself. A VN without music or sounds is like a visual book, can be a good book but with music can be great!

Good music is hard to find, hard to fit and taste plays a lot too. Good ambience and sfx on other hand are much more forgiving. Silence can be a miss too.

Evermore for example you are in the correct mood before you start the game.

I think music adds a lot to games. Honestly when I load a game with no music whatsoever it ends up making it less interesting to me.

I think its nice especially the generic background music because sometimes I feel too alone with my thoughts playing.

Yes, if is not wrong implemented. Also SFX are good too. But VN need at least some background music.

Ambiant sounds are nice (if you can set the volume), music is often an annoyance due to poor choice.

The right music at the right time can really help bring a game to life. Sadly thats a difficult thing to get right and a lot of devs don't manage it, but yeah generally some music is preferable to me sitting alone in dark late at night with only the occasional click of a mouse button or keyboard key for company.

Jesus that sounds more depressing than i meant it too 😆

As long as it's not a shitty loop and you can tinker with the volume then yeah, games should have a soundtrack.

Feel the same about voices. If it's not some canned moans they took from a porn scene that constantly repeats itself during sex, then it can add so much to the whole experience. It's why I love when some devs go the extra mile and add some voice acting to their works.

Games without sound is very boring. I can read comics or something. I think that music, voices and sound should be in a good games

I'll have my own music or YT playing on another monitor, so I just mute everything in game for a VN

Most of the time I play without sound, so I don't really care. But if I had to say I think I prefer it only in the most important moments

Suspense music and fight music is great but during sex scenes it's just distracting

I feel that very loud music often ruins the gaming experience, but it helps a lot to be more immersive
