Still have it. Because if the cell towers are out (or it's at 0 power) and 911 is needed...
I only use my cell phone as a phone and almost always only for long distance.

I got a cooper landline also cheap great for power outage but its a rare thing :( does your town have a pay phone? mine removed the last one few years back sadly.

Ohhhh that's messed up, ty for explaining! <3

That user is correct NSFW means not safe for work which is very broad one can say a swear word is NSFW so now you need a id because someone in that discord chat said the F word.

"If discord requires you to prove your age will you stop using it?"

No, I don't use that crap anyway, why should I, is it important!?
On other sites that offer me something that is important to me or seems important, yes, definitely,
I don't support any nonsense that someone comes up with just because they demand me to do so.

I am my own master and owe nothing to anyone.
And certainly not my private data or information about me.

The situation is different for government agencies and institutions, of course, but who can claim to be truly free?
No one!

Discord continues to be the go to for end user support on many sites even Lewdcorner has a discord for updates/chats and discussion on upcoming updates/changes etc. Any staff member also has there own section to talk to other staff on discord.

So sadly like adobe with PDF files the internet has made discord something that is used way to often making them a somewhat monopoly on pc communication.

One more reason to boycott it and give other developments with something better a chance to conquer the market or fill the gaps.

I deleted it yesterday. Would have been as soon as they announced it, but I was busy,

The problem with anything that gives up any degree of specific info about a user, is that it can be monetized. Even if I don't see it happening immediately, it could be valuable in two or ten years. Once there's a buck to be made, someone will be willing to sell that info.

Facial scanning would allow a biometric database to be cross referenced. I know for a fact that is something DMV in my state was using a decade ago. So that pic from today will give concrete results as well as years worth of chat logs in a few years when someone waves enough cash.

Further, my country is currently experiencing a rise of authoritarianism. Even if I am imagining it, which is am not. Then there is a database with info about my habits and thoughts as well as periodic photos of my face ready to be subpoenaed and cross referenced by AI at some nebulous point in the future.

I don't know what threats it could open, but I know enough about the possibilities to not play ball. If this company doesn't have their numbers tank from this, then the next company will try the same. Jumping ship is the least I can do to protect myself and others.

Here is the thing, they are wanting ID or some kind of picture for facial scan.
So what happens to the LC discord server? Cause all of that would probably apply to that.
Would that not be the end of the LC discord server?

I sent the admins all this information and that question when this all started they never got back and 0 pms or messages nothing.

So who knows but my discord account attached to the LC discord just has a real email nothing else and i do not post much at all on discord so if it ask's for a id im out there is no way i am attaching a GOVT anything to LC i say that as a doner.

My town only had 1 pay phone back in the day when they were common. Not sure if it's still there. It's a very small town.

I barely used it and just started, now with this new requirement that service can fuck off.

Especially after Discord somehow leaked IDs already in a new hack a few months ago..

UK government is now pushing for VPN providers to do age checks. If this catches on, it sounds like
VPN will require to see your ID or you must do facial recognition to make sure you are 18 years old.

Good luck enforcing that on ones not located there.

A VPN requiring an ID to use it is ridiculous and kinda defeats the purpose

I posted about that before its about the paid vpns with those they can block sales and or regulate who is getting the service were free distribution would be illegal. America is already pushing a bill in some states.

I figured it was going to happen eventually, I'm surprised it took this long. Can't wait for another huge leak of their database to happen, and people to get pissed all over again. Sucks ass though...

I may be putting myself in a corner given the way things have been developing over the past years, but I will never use any service that requires identification through an online submission or portal that links to any tangible form of identification.
And I think it's very important that we as a society don't bend the knee to do so just to use a tool.

Something people might not be aware is that this type of stuff is only going to become increasingly more frequent with time. Safety regulations are being forced on social media at an increasing rate, and this includes Discord. It's not really as black and white as people seem to believe. But inconvenience is a valid point in my opinion.

I personally use Discord quite a lot and I think it's great for all sorts of things. But at the same time, there's literally 100s if not 1000s of public servers with NSFW content or dating servers (I genuinely don't know why people use Discord as Tinder, but it's shockingly common lol) + the number of minors that are using the platform is increasing.

I would argue that it's better to allow NSFW content for people that enjoy it by asking for age verification rather than flat-out ban it like so many other mainstream platforms did.

Privacy concerns are also valid, but in reality - privacy on internet is already quite minimal. You'd probably be shocked to see just how much of your data has already been legally acquired of the past few years, let alone illegally. Huge majority of websites you visit will collect some data from you.

But back to the age-verification issue: they'll most likely ask for some kind of ID, and a lot of people are not comfortable with sharing that (which is fine). Chances are that you won't really have to actually share anything because people will find a workaround anyways, it's just a matter of time. It'll likely happen extremely fast too, with the AI allowing you to essentially fabricate literally everything. Or just use the good old Photoshop.

Bottom line: this isn't some insurmountable issue, and you'll probably have like 50 video tutorials on YouTube - showing you a workaround for this problem within the first week :P

It's pure bullshit and it reminds me of the whole hustler/playboy witch-hunts from the 60-70's

Politicians just keep using porn/children/religion as excuses while there are larger more important issues to fix.

Nothing but bread and circuses while the world burns around you.

For age verification; I wouner if the pic of me just before my last flight befor I retired will work?????

This has been done in the uk all the work a round's that have been posted patched.

You talk like discord is a open platform with a search function 16 year old timmy can go to discord login in search lewdcorner then jerk off to the NSFW content that is not at all possible.

All discord had to do was allow parents to see what stuff timmy was subbed to we already need a email with a account so the parent would see via that account on a dashboard what is going on. Heck here is something even more crazy parents giving kids restricted access to the internet via router child safety filter and phones made for kids. But my parents just gave me a pirated big dish with a remote in my room LOL.
