In the future do you think AI will save the world or destroy it?

The AI will think it's saving it. Whether that world includes humanity as we are, or would like to be, or not is an entirely different matter, though.

The world? If we keep developing ais the way we are, with no oversights or safeguards... probably save it, from a utilitarian perspective... which likely means getting rid of us...

With proper care and treating it like something more dangerous than nuclear weapons - and it effectively can be - maybe, just maybe, there's a not dystopian future where it can help us become better.

I have the feeling that every times AI make a step forward humanity is taking a step backward. I see a lot of new technology everyday but nothing to advance us as human beings, only things making us more and more lazy and weak.

My opinion in the matter is that in a few years humans will become irrelevant if we continue on this path. Technology is nice to make our life easier but we should not forget what it means to be human and that a satisfying life is not a life without struggle.

What you guys think?

It all depends who wield it and to what extent.

imagine terminator but sexy. I think it'd be the path of least resistance for ai tbh

I think neither. We will probably destroy the world first, before the AI has a chance to save us or destroy us.

Considering we humans created AI, and if it destroys humankind. It is still on us for creating it in the first place.

I don't think AI is going to go Skynet and try to eradicate life. What I'm worried about is humans becoming too reliant on AI to do all thinking for us. And since AI is, and always will be, owned by rich cryptocunts, we're looking at a Brave New World / Wall-E situation.

AI will never be able to save the world. Its a tool, use it like one.

I must say though, people will lose their jobs to robots. This is and isn't a bad thing, same as when cars first came about and horse tamers or whatever lost their jobs as well. Temporary pain for some to later increased consumer goods, means reduction in price, and less working hours for all. It could even lead to universal basic income.

Probably both, first destroy a lot of thing in military action, then put thing back in a new fashion based on the vision of those who decided to destroy a lot of thing.

fuck or be fucked. This is way more meaningful than salvation or destruction.

I get where you're coming from, but I'm still hopeful AI can handle the boring stuff so we have more room for the messy, human parts. The struggle does matter though, so hopefully we don't automate that away entirely.

"the world" is an interesting concept in this context, as is "humanity". I think that AI will enable a true utopia for the human species and an existence of plenty. However, the existence and prosperity of "humanity" doesn't require the vast majority of the population, and I believe that utopia with be brought about through the removal of 95% of the population, either through making them obsolete and starving them out, or making them obsolete and killing them off through subtle or blatant means.
"Humanity" in that future would be those with wealth and power, having their needs met by machines who do all the labor, while able to enjoy a world free from any peasantry who might threaten them or demand anything of them. Any additional humans would be kept to serve the vanity of the powerful, as human worship is more meaningful than programable worship. There will be utopia, and we will have no place in it, but "the world" and "humanity" will endure and prosper.

The only path away from that future I see is to threaten mutually destructive violence, so those holding the keys to AI's potential are forced to share the bounty to buy their lives and lifestyle. In theory, this is how and why UBI would be established.

Will make same as hammers or any other tool, don't fall for the hype or fearmongering, the hype is to sell more subscriptions, the fearmongering is just to the big daddy gov to protect the big AI companies from new competition.
