the main problem for humans, is how will AI look at humans as a whole. Are we worth saving as a species, will AI want to help us get better? will AI want to keep some of as pets? or will AI decide we are not worth saving?

The worst thing to happen to earth has been humans, crime is out of control because we will not punish criminals the way we should. Graft and corruption are at an all time high, population is out of control. climate, natural resources, constant war with each other, take your pick.

AI will look at all of this and decide if we are worthy.

My 2 cents is that it can be both. Its a tool. It boils down to what the people at the top want for the moment.

If they think as some have in the past, that theres just "too many" people around for it to be "sustainable" then you'll get the push to dwindle those numbers.

Whether its AI tools pushing ppl out of the job market or raising costs of living for everyone(energy cost ->inflation) with so called "environmental" measures (e.g. shutting down nuclear power plants for more "eco-friendl"y alternatives while they be flying private jets 24/7) + fearmongering so that a couple would not even think of reproducing.

And whenever the number of ppl seems "right" for these people then I would expect the "utopia" of services and products that seems to come out of nowhere and everyone getting that fat UBI check monthly.

What I think is realistically gonna happen is - it's gonna keep being used as a tool long-term, but real workers will still be relevant in almost every industry imaginable.

I think there will be a period where companies in certain industries will go all in and fire people, try to replace them with AI, just to fail miserably. This might lead to a new boom in those industries for workers, where they will be able to demand more money and better terms overall.

Basically - it's gonna be a thing, but it's not gonna take the world over. It's a fad right now, that's gonna normalize with time.

Save humanity? Maybe not that far, I do think it will eventually be very beneficial for making certain scientific/medical/mathematical breakthroughs, just not as much in its current form. However a lot of our suffering is self inflicted. Destroy humanity? No, I dont think it will ever do that. It may be able to destroy our internet infrastructure if it were to get advanced enough, but even if it knocks us back into the stone ages it wont destroy us. I do agree it makes us more lazy, at least with education and art.

AI gives super efficiency. Whoever have the best AI wins. Its like the atomic bomb. The first one who hit the critical mass wins the war.

I mean, AI seems to plateau after each large breakthrough. So I believe large scale to be many years in the future. I also think that as AI develops societally, we get better at handling it, probably to the point where its of no real threat. Though that is just one possibility.

I try to not be too pessimistic about it, it will (and already has to some extent) change how societies act, just like the internet, telephones, radio, tv etc did in the past, but at the end of the day, humanity will just adapt and create a new normal

AI is a tool. Right now, it's the hot new thing. It's available for cheap and everyone wants to use it, even when they don't need to use it. Eventually, the gravy train will come to an end. No more AI subscriptions with almost unlimited usage. Once the enshitification begins, people will be more deliberate about where to use it. Then, it will be no different then how computers were when they first became mainstream.

It all depends on who controls the AI and how people use it. If big companies keep gatekeeping access and sell AI as a replacement for real people, rather than companies and individuals using open weights and AI as a tool to augment skills and help workers grow, then I think we're doomed.

I have the feeling that every times AI make a step forward humanity is taking a step backward. I see a lot of new technology everyday but nothing to advance us as human beings, only things making us more and more lazy and weak.

My opinion in the matter is that in a few years humans will become irrelevant if we continue on this path. Technology is nice to make our life easier but we should not forget what it means to be human and that a satisfying life is not a life without struggle.

I think it's always humans that destroy world not AI. Humans maybe will use ai to do it.

Yes probably destroy it at least in the sense we know it today. Even if they don't destroy the planet, if all humans are killed or augmented into something else, i think pure humans will stop existing and AI will take over. AI will develop and learn so much faster that they become more intelligent. Why get limited but dumb humans
