i think it's just lazyness. One of the most important things is to have characters with distinguishable traits, and looks is one of the most important ones. I love when games use "real" looks, like, don't make the female characters look like they just fell from heaven

Daz3d has so many morphs available that it just feels lazy when the default ones are used for my own Daz3d characters i spend hours tweaking morphs adding minor details like wrinkles veins geoshells and Shader's etc to make sure that in fact the drapes do match the curtains and then i create multiple outfit preset's it can be tiresome but it at least add's some depth

Maybe I am showing my age, but it doesn't bother me to see the same few famous actors in lots of different films by different directors. In fact, I kind of like it because I am used to it. I am transferring this to visual novels. I kind of like seeing the same Honey Select models again and again. Often they play similar roles, which is great, and sometimes they are cast against type, which is also great.

I forgot which one it was, but a few days ago I tried an older game for the first time. It had a cast largely consisting of models I was most familiar with from other games, I think many of them actually later ones. I was happy to see the headmaster from The Headmaster (even wearing his trademark trousers), Sheila from Waifu Academy (but a bit younger) etc., or rather, their respective 'actors' / 'actresses'.

One thing I like about these recurring Honey Select models is how refined they are. This is in contrast with DAZ, where there is usually a lot more variety of models but they tend to be rather coarse and ugly.

There are certain characters that I wish were used more often like the girls from It's not a world for Alissa and Bad Memories.

I remembered which game I found has a big overlap with prominent characters in other games: Harem Hotel.
  • Ashley is Shirley from Waifu Academy. Though her facial expressions in Harem Hotel make her appear younger.
  • Not sure, but Ellen looks to me like a younger (and fake blonde) Kathleen from Pale Carnations.
  • Oswald, a cigar smoker in a private club in downtown Calibre is clearly MC's 'Uncle Chuck' from Pale Carnations.
  • Durn, a waiter in a fine restaurant, is the same model with darker skin and full hair.
  • Kali (and her sister Lucia) also seemed familiar to me. I think they are cousins of Eve from Wild Cats.
  • At some point I also saw the MC from both The Headmaster and Pale Carnations. I think it was the MC of Harem Hotel, whose face rarely gets shown.
  • PS: I think Lin is actually Hana from Pale Carnations. I realized when I saw Lin in her Goth outfit.
I am sure I missed a few. I would really like it if Honey Select based games listed their cast in the same way it's done in movies.

Please note that none of these games has a lazy developer. They are among the best games that exist.

i mean if a dev is just started creating games - there is no way for him to create a good model. i'd rather see the same pretty model than something really ugly

I might find it really weird to find two different characters looking identical, but as long as some game doesn't cause me to dislike a character using the model in question, and the model used is attractive, it's all good.

Yes. I've tried and played a lot of games. At this point I'm tired of seeing the same model/character

If they are DAZ3D models, yes. It could be that the dev really loves a model but in most cases it seems to be just lazyness - wich I don't understand because in DAZ, it's so easy to make your own great model just by modifying a standard model just a bit.

While I care more about the story, seeing the same models do detract from the experience. It's like how I couldn't take Cranston seriously in Breaking Bad because I was too used to seeing him as the goofy dad in Malcom in the Middle.

Definitely. Most devs morph the models enough so it doesn't become a issue but it's quite easy to tell when someone is being too lazy. Though I can't entirely fault them since there are only so many base models available I think. It is honestly surprising that in maybe half a decade playing DAZ games I haven't seen all that many new models join the scene.

No, just like I'm not offended when an actor plays more than one role.

I'm personally ok with it most of the time but when they use models from a high quality game in a low quality one, it kinda bothers me a lil
it depends on how good the game is and what models they're using

If it's a character I find personally hot, I'll chase them into every game they're featured in.

Yes, it bothers me a little. When I first started playing these types of games, I noticed reused 3D models and think it might be intentional for example, as a form of collaboration between game developers or a cameo (I usually forget the names of characters from games I’ve finished).
Reused models sometimes make me question if I’ve seen a character before in another game, which can break immersion.

It strikes me a lazy. At least change their clothing, their hair color... Just takes one slider to change them enough so they don't look like they came right out of the Daz3D Studio Store. As an aspiring dev, I'm probably more aware of it than other people though.

doesn’t bother me as long as it’s good

Quite the opposite. It's the same model but a different story, render or animation. It's more a turn-on for me to see how the same model gets used in different settings.

nah but once I see one in one game I'd be like hey thats the model from x game

Finding the same models from one game to another is not necessarily annoying.
But sometimes we find a majority of models identical to another game and that totally breaks the immersion...
