Do you prefer a faceless protagonist in your games?

If you show me the MC in full, he better have face. Faceless is so weird and breaks the immersion immediately for me.

I struggle to get into a game if the MC isn't attractive. But since i'm almost always imagining myself in the place of the LI then faceless would make no sense. I also need to be able to rename them or i get bored.

I'd rather them either just have a face or it be first person. It's feels like censorship if they re just faceless beings, and its kinda wierd to me, won't stop me from playing the game though.

As long as the protagonist is just a regular guy it's fine. If they're made horrendously ugly on purpose it's just not my kinda game.

Don't care, maybe better if MC has some personality instead of being blurred like a locked character

I totally agree that a faceless protagonist, or one where the game sticks to a first-person perspective, can make a huge difference for immersion. When you don’t see the character’s face, or it’s deliberately obscured—like a helmeted hero or just a shadowy figure—it leaves this perfect blank slate. You can project yourself into the role without the game throwing a predefined face at you that might not match how you see yourself. That mismatch can totally shatter the fantasy, right? Like, if the protagonist has a distinct look that’s nothing like you, it’s harder to feel like you’re the one saving the galaxy or sneaking through a dungeon. A faceless or first-person setup sidesteps that, letting you fill in the gaps with your own identity, emotions, or even backstory.

Take first-person games like Half-Life or Dishonored—you’re in the driver’s seat, seeing the world through the character’s eyes, and it feels like your choices and reactions are shaping the story. Gordon Freeman never speaks or shows his face, and that silence lets you decide who he is in your head. Same with games like Halo, where Master Chief’s helmet keeps his face hidden—sure, he’s got a voice, but you can still imagine yourself under that armor. It’s like the game’s saying, “Hey, this is you, not some random dude I designed.” That’s gold for self-insertion.

Both have good and bad examples. In case of faceless you need to either do it first person or from the back in cg and not go for blank oval in full front sprite. In other one model should be good and match game protag, and not be obviously 30 years dude in game about uni kids.

For me I prefer for the protag to be faceless(face is obscured or the game is in first person perspective the majority of the game) because I like to self-insert when playing. And seeing a face that doesn't resemble mine breaks the illusion.
I prefer with face, if the mc isn't an psycho or ugly as hell person like in some games

I'm indifferent. I don't mind when a game has a faceless mc in the first person. but I do mind when they show the face of the mc in 3rd person and its blurred

I don’t really care if the protagonist has a face or not. I actually think it’s kind of cool when they don’t, but it doesn’t bother me at all.

Honestly I've seen too many bad looking protagonists to say I don't prefer them faceless - at least in theory.
Thing is - most wegs doesn't do it properly so it often comes out weird. in WVM for example the dev just placed a black box to hide the protag face.
So good faceless protag execution > decent face > bad faceless protag execution

Overall, it makes no difference. Everything is determined by a well-developed plot. All other considerations are secondary.
Thought about this, too, and it doesn't matter to me either. At first I thought faceless is better to better immerse myself in the game and put "myself" in it, but playing Summertime Saga at the same time made me realize I don't care.

Also, new Summertime Saga update sucks lol.

Depends if it's an original/generic setting or not. Established settings, I don't mind being the established protag.
