What kind of game are you making? Ren'Py is basically exclusively for VNs, so if you want to talk about graphics then Unity is better and Ren'Py isn't even competing. If you're talking about pc performance then Ren'Py wins unless the developer figure out ways to write extremely pointlessly wasteful code since Ren'Py is scene based and doesn't normally need to bother with fps or update cycles.
I dislike unity engine the most, first place would be any of the RPGM fallowed by Ren'ply. I like the game play style of RPGM but it seem ren'ply has better games.
what does everybody think?
RenPy, no contest for me. It's extremely user friendly and easy to start with for new creators. On the user side of things, it's very easy to mod (and yes, sometimes cheat) allowing you to further customize an already good game to your liking.
Unity is better for sandbox-style games where more complex game systems and UI are required. Those are still very doable in RenPy, but can be a bit of a pain in the a** at times.
RPGM I just plain dislike. I know that's a relatively unpopular opinion, but it simply isn't for me. *shrug*
Renpy by far. Designed for VNs and simple enough to handle almost any of them, but with enough flexibility for most of the slightly different things people want to do.
Unity is powerful in theory but overcomplicated and poorly implemented overkill for most AVNs (also, saving is frequently a pain).
RPGM is useful for one very specific purpose: free-roaming open world games with turn-based combat. If you're using it for anything else you should rethink your life (also, saves tend to be a pain).
HTML is a functional enough basic engine, but I can't think of many HTML games that wouldn't have been as good or better in Renpy (also, saving tends to be a pain).
Unreal Engine is rare but almost always way more power than a VN needs or the amateur dev making it can handle (also sometimes the saves are a pain).
RAGS is for devs who hate their players and, probably, themselves. Or are Russian which may or may not mean the same thing. Can't remember the last time I tried saving in a RAGS game but I'm pretty sure it was a pain.
Flash is for people who accidentally time-traveled here from 2014 and haven't caught on to the strange ways of the future yet (also, saving is a pain).
Tyrano/Godot/etc- well aren't you just a special snowflake, dev. Your saves are probably a pain.
RenPy. The reason is that I use Linux. Of course, I could use Wine to run Windows applications, but there is no game that would be interesting enough to combat my laziness to configure Wine for that. So I stay with RenPy (and most of the games are in RenPy).
Unity because normally games that are made in it always have some interesting system or minigame, RenPy always has the same thing because it seems kind of rigid, or maybe it's just the developers who only use it when they don't want to go to the trouble of programming systems, who knows.
Ren'py by far. Unity and UE crash all the time and RPGM sucks the cum out of a dead man's dick. Does anyone actually LIKE RPGM for adult games? It really isn't for that sort of thing. And the map graphics would have been bad in the late 1980s.
