Ren'py typically offers the best support for one handed play....

I mean, that just makes it the best for for people with different disabilities, right???

renpy is great - though experienced devs can make it more of an experience
play a few unity games - can be ok
rpgmaker - has to be a great game to get me to play it!

the ability to extract the renpy files to see how they were coded, play with variables to enable paths etc is great.

It is all about accessibility to all! can't let our one handed brothers miss out.

I have never delved into the files for Ren'Py games but that is good to know.

I prefer Renpy and second up Unity.

Renpy 98% of the time.. very rare I try any other anymore, the graphics don't do it for me..Unity is shite all over imo

Unless you have something that is not possible to do in Ren'Py, like vector animation, real time 3D graphics, or actual gameplay that is not VN-like, you should stick to Ren'Py. Games that follow the same principle as text based ones just gets worse when are made in another engine, because Ren'Py already has plenty of QoL features and is pretty light on the computer.

I appreciate everyone's feed back! Ren'py is the obvious king with this pole.

Just wondering. Some games are in Ren'Py, some in Unity. Which is graphically better, easier on pc-specs etc.?

I don't know. I just know, I'm not playing the game, if it isn't Ren'Py

It depends very much on what it is used for. For VNs Ren'py is more than sufficient.
You don't need photoshop if all you do is MS Paint style images, it's overkill.

Also Unity games are known for being poorly optimized and for lower spec pcs they can be GPU-killers.

Renpy is tailor-made for VNs; it has one job and it is really good at that one job. Unity, on the other hand, is a more versatile workhorse, capable of handling more styles of games.

While you can make non-VN games in Renpy, it's not exactly its forte. Similarly, Unity can handle VNs, but you're reinventing the wheel every step of the way. You end up wasting time on the VN infrastructure that you could have spent on story and art.

Now, when it comes to adult games specifically, I've seen a lot of Unity titles that would have been simpler and more effective in Renpy. The rare exceptions are few and far between.

If you consider kinetic and visual novels - RenPy. The engine is lightweight, does not load the system, works with Windows, Mac, Linux, easily ported to android.
If we are talking about real GAMES, my choice is Unity. The requirements are higher, it works well with Windows, but there may be problems with other systems. The load on the system is a little bit heavier, but not critical. If there are performance problems or problems with GPU, it is first of all a sign that the developer's hands are crooked.
But in general both engines are good.

It depends on what game you want to create.

Ren'Py, just like RPG Maker MV/MZ, is a tool that allows you to create a local website. As a result, the easiest things they can do is load images made externally and display them. Just like in RPG Maker, there are no limits for Ren'Py so long as you know how to write python & html & javascript.
The existing tooling for this website, in this case Ren'Py, is specifically optimized to make displaying dialogue accompanied by images as easy and quick to do as possible - to the detriment of everything else that you'd have to code yourself.

Unity is an actual game engine that renders the game in 2D or 3D, depending on what assets you use.

No engine is graphically better or better on pc specs. The best 3D results can be gotten with the Unreal Engine, which has the most advanced inbuilt 3D graphic features and is pretty darn quick in its rendering. But if you code things wastefully and mess things up, you'll kill your game's performance same as everywhere else. Performance is primarily always a question of optimization by the developer.
While the Unreal Engine can make the best 3D renders on the spot, it doesn't quite compete with the sort of highly controlled rendering of images or animations you can get from Daz3D or especially from Blender.
In other words: no Unreal Engine realtime animation will ever compare to a pregenerated Blender animation.

TLDR; your question has no good answers. It's a question that lacks the necessary basis (type of game, type of graphics, type of gameplay) that would allow a good distinction between engines. In theory, every engine can do almost everything - it's just a question of you programming it to do so. That's why engine choice is usually based on what engine suits your particular game best because it's more optimized for that specific type of game or has plugins on sale that would aid you, and what engine you're most comfortable working in.

For someone who mainly just plays the games. Never have any problems with Renpy do however sometimes get multiple crashes with unity or it won't start up correctly or at all.

For the glorified comic books that make up the "VN" genre, i like Renpry.

Beyond that, Unity seems to have more use.
