What unsolicited advice would you give to porn game devs?

If your game has a bunch of choices that interact complexly with each other (as opposed to having a limited number of story branches), the amount of work you need to do to handle it goes up exponentially and you will often just give up on most of the things you put in at the start.

If your update is going to have a maximum of 3 minutes of gameplay, be transparent with your supporters and include those 3 minutes in the next update, or increase the time between updates to produce more content.

It's really annoying to download a game where the gameplay lasts less than the download time of the file.

Customizable keybindings, especially if you could easily adjust the bindings so that you can play the game with one hand. :sneaky:

Just finish your game. Dont remake things, use that new experience on your next game.

To the imbecilic japanese ones. Have an uncensored mod ready to be released to the public in the dark webs. Your pathetic censorship laws ruin your games forever.
To the others, focus on quality instead of quantity. That is the biggest reason for abandonment, burn out devs that wrote too many girls and they drop the project because it is too much work since making a game is not an easy task. The "trying to please everyone" does not work in normal games, certainly will not work in this niche.

never take longer then 3-4 years working on a game, once you get to 5+years the chances of you finishing the game rapidly decrease

Keep transparent and open communications with customers and be realistic in development plans.

Imagine an ending for your game and finish it.
It's much more enjoyable to play multiple finished games from the same developer than one game that never ends and becomes dull over time.

only release your game when its complete, that way you don't have to listen to 75,000 people telling you to add pregnancy

Plan ahead and have a good idea what's going to happen throughout and exactly what variables will be used and don't add any after - so old saves will always work. Remember the 7 Ps - Prior Planning and Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance.

Be up front with fetishes, and give toggles for the more extreme stuff. Props to you if you like it... but seeing a worm crawl out of someone's urethra might ruin the mood for the unsuspecting.

Don't add loli, if you want make it an addon which can give out after the game is finished. Too many good games, abandoned because of this kind of shit. Of course if you don't want money by those despicable companies like paypal, patreon etc, you can do whatever you want.

If you make your game incest like, but then undo it because of patreon, do the patch yourself, so many half broken games + patches....

If you like to come up with text, write your text, delete half of it. Because nobody wants to read too much text.

Lets think If I can come up with some more useless unsolicited help....

And that includes ANYTHING that a large number of people hate - like any sort of ntr (yes that DOES include swinging/sharing - netorari isn't the only NTR), anything that could be considered "gay" (including trap and futa), the ones very few like (scat, etc.) and so on...

Write out a sketch of the story you want to tell before you start coding/doing art. Include main characters and mechanics of the game. This helps you get an idea about the scope of work you are about to commit to.

Limit the number of characters. Imo, depth and plenty of content per character is always better than plenty of shallow characters with few scenes per char.

Dont listen to others for advice - tell your story and write your game the way you want to tell it/write it. :)

I think renpy is more popular than others engines and I think is better put even some simple choices than none. But if it's a 3D or 2D is better you go to other engine instead renpy.

Don't overdo it on the LIs, That can spiral out of control very fast depending on paths. A patch might be 2k renders but if you are on like 3 of 20 LIs paths its a 5 minute update

Dont listen to people. The amount of devs ive seen start with something great, then try to please everyone, only to crash cos they cant do it, is alot.

Make your game the way you want, if you have some spare time and people ask alot, add a route, but please dont change your entire vision based on comments.....
