i tend to stick to renpy but i have a few unity games i play ..i exclude rpgm tags from my view/searches

Have to agree....its pretty rare to find a decent RPGM game

Ren'Py
Unity

Engine I hate...even tho no one asked: Tyranno Builder.

Ren'py is the easiest imo. Unity can be good, but Ren'py is the standard and usually I am looking for a VN with choices rather than a true game, which is why I usually like RPG maker the least. I find that the "games" are usually shit minigames that are more frustrating than not or just annoying fetch quests. Just give me the story/porn already.

3. Sandbox (only if the dev can properly use it) - Unity
4. If there's a big team behind the game - Unreal Engine

I made a thread about this at one point, some people recommended some RPGM games, and since then I've branched out... Buuuut.... Yeah, still isn't top of my list by a long shot. Has to be particularly well made

Has AI changed the game for developers (can they use different engines now) or is it mostly used for graphics? I always thought the big advantage of Ren'py is that it's easy to use and the small file size. Other than Unity, are there more alternatives now?

Ren'py, the controls are decent and normalized and behave the same. Some unity versions can be okay but without a simple skip especially when replaying sections I'm out. I have decided I'm over rpgm, the controls never have made sense to me, I won't play any game (adult or otherwise) using the engine anymore

Like most of the people in this thread, I too am a fan of Ren'Py, it's easy to use overall, you can edit your saves easy, you can adjust your resolution easy.
It just feels like the most "Plug n Play" option when it comes to engines.

I don't really care to be honest.

Acouple of my top games are on RPGM, some are using Unity, one on Unreal and a couple using Ren'py.

I have been seeing your posts for a long time, mostly over on f95, and I feel like I always agree with your taste in games. That being said, I usually avoid RPGM games, but if you say some of them are your tops, I would give them a try. Can you recommend which RPGM you like?

Renpy. Cuz some developers release their games only for windows in which case I can easily make them for linux as well.
