The characters keep changing faces and clothing. It's like AI drunk

The thing most people don't understand about AI art is that it takes almost as much time to create good AI art as it takes to make good traditional art. Much like traditional art, it also takes a long time to learn how to make good AI art, but it requires an altered skill set. You also need some artistic skill to know what works. Much of the really good stuff you've seen had their final touches finished in Photoshop.
lol

As a gamer, I don't mind them—provided they are well-made and break away from the stale, standard AI look.

The problem is that some developers don't even review what they put out; you see generic, distorted images that lack continuity. While it was acceptable when the tech was new, nowadays there needs to be at least a minimum level of care put into both the story and the visuals.

Back in the Daz days, there were plenty of games using similar models, but you could still see some genuine effort.

One use case that yields good results, in my opinion, is enhancing animations; I really liked the outcome, as it preserves the original style while adding fluidity to the scene.

Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

Holy shit i cant breathe

If it takes almost as much time to create than a normal artist, dont fucking use it and get an actual artist. Fuck AI generated images
If it's so quick and easy, then how about you prove it and post some fantastic art? It should only take you a few hours to get some good prompts going.

Hate it, but only in art. So many games have just been dumped with ai art that it floods the rest. As a tool for everything else though, it’s fine.

For me, it's less about the AI, and more about a person's utilization of AI. I've seen it used adequately in many fields, even art. Most notably for art, it seems like it has a ton of potential for giving still images some very nice animations.
All that being said, it should be treated as a tool instead of a solution, similar to Photoshop. Most people who aren't at least half-decent artists would probably not be able to make AI Art that I'd consider good.

As for AI voice acting... I despise it. Maybe one day, but for now, there's just too many subtleties in human language that I feel like AI will never truly understand. It sticks out like a sore thumb.

I disagree with your first statement and think that generating assets definitely takes less time with AI than it would take by hand, but I do agree with the rest of your points.

Quite regularly I get comments that boil down to "dude, you're using AI, why does your game still have so little images / animation" without considering it still takes me quite a bit of time to generate adequate assets.

Training LoRA's, refining image editing techniques is also quite a timesink, but I can honestly say it still costs me way less time than an adequate artist would take.

In my view though, this kind of content+ that we enjoy will get harder and harder to monitize, so personally I'm glad AI gave me an opportunity to build the game I want without having to rely on donations.

At first the idea was to use AI as placeholder assets and then use donations to pay for real ones, but that turned out to be extremely unrealistic LOL

According to my calculations it would cost more than $5000 to replace what is now present, let alone what will be added in the future.

Back when I bothered to add donation links to replace the art I made literally $0.00 xD

AI is like any other tool that facilitates work. If it is used creatively to improve good work, it's great. If it is used as a replacement for talent or effort, it's bad.
It allows fast creation of sloppy work - but that will still be sloppy, uncreative work. Just faster than before.
But it also allows the creation of amazing art.

So, use it well and put some effort in it, or don't use it at all.

I honestly like AI in games, just because it makes the games more streamlined. I rather get AI than games that take years to finish. Im pretty much anti AI in lots of other areas but this is one that makes sense to me.

As we've probably seen, there's surge of AI helped/made games, for sex scenes or the whole game, especially the new ones. We can see this in games like hos. Where the art is mostly or all AI. But do you think this ruins art, or does it not matter for you? I'm curious on your guys opinion on AI porn art.
hos? what is the full name?

eh, i have surprisingly had a few fappable experiences with ai recently in only a handful of games so i cant really just bash it anymore. the caveat is that the ai was done TASTEFULLY well in those circumstances and complemented the sex scenes as a whole with a sort of fluidity to the movement that only ai seems to be able to create at the moment, instead of just using the ai components to add unnecessary bloat and fill in for a lack of artistic direction. the problem is that only certain artists are able to use ai in this way.......and the thousands of other "pop-ups" are generally not worth sifting through to find the diamonds in the rough

Attempts to take the position of Luddites will yield nothing. Whether you like it or not, in the next couple of years, neural networks will have an increasingly growing influence on both the development of society and the creation of these games. You just need to accept this fact. A neural network is a tool, just like a palette in an artist’s hands, nothing more.
I’m more concerned about the potential social problems — the gap between the rapid development of productive forces and production relations is growing; what this will lead to — read Marx, Das Kapital.

There are a handful of games where AI has been used that are pretty good as a whole, even mostly consistent renders/animations, but just a handful. Some you can really tell as time goes on, that the dev is putting in the time to get better. There is definately a lot of slop, but even in non AI games there are more than enough devs that are just in it for the money, for as little work as possible. I think you have that in anything in life, always gonna be people who do something because they love it and really put in the time, and in the best case scenario make a living off of it, but there will always be those who only want to make a quick buck.

One thing I am hoping for which should probably be doable in the future is a seemless integration of a chatbot/generative AI or something similar in games. Basically any interactive media tbh. Lets say you have a game which has a main story line, like a base line story, and depending on how you interact with the world, the characters, etc... the story, characters, world can change, branch off into anything. Generating images and animations as you go.

I remember when I was younger (before AI was a thing) watching a movie where I found some character extremely annoying and thought to myself, wouldn't it be cool if I could just flick a switch and kill this character off and the movie adjusts accordingly. Wouldn't that be cool.

AI art itself isn't bad, it's the lazy uninspired style that majority of them seem to share and crap out.

If it looks good and the models don't change with every scene, then I don't have a problem with it. Every dev is welcome to use AI, but if you're expecting people to support you, you have to understand they expect some quality in your game (it's a bit funny to talk about quality and AI in the same sentence, but you get my point.)

I really hate AI art in games, for many reasons:

- inconsistent
- all looks the same, easy to know when AI was used
- used as a quick cash grab by many, people fall for it and then they either release a cheap product or they abandon the game and disappear with the money of the people who invested

Lately it seems that so many people are falling for such scam...I actually find it sad.

My broad stance on AI is generally very negative, I don't like how it sneaked its way into our everyday lives with such ease, and I don't like how much people trust and rely on it for everything. I know people who use Chat GPT to discuss their personal problems, and I find it worrying and dangerous. Not gonna go on a tangent here, just making a premise.

That said, when it comes to adult gaming my view is kind of the opposite. As many have already said, it very much depends on how someone uses AI art, but in general I don't mind the looks of it too much, and I think if someone has a good story, or a good idea for a game, and wants to rely on AI for the graphical aspects because they don't have artistic skills and\or the money to hire a good artist, it can be a good thing. It can help bringing to life stories and games that, otherwise, would have remained in their authors' mind. The problem, as everything AI goes, is in the insane amount of low-effort slop produced by people who think flashing a pair of boobs in a banner is enough to rack up a few dollars.

On the topic of "yes, but it all looks the same"; unpopular opinion (maybe), but we have\had the same problem with stuff like Daz or HS2\Koikatsu. When Daz was coming out we witnessed a surge of games with the same trite models used again and again, with their horrendous mouths and default poses, terrible, grainy and flat renders, etc...I personally don't think that downloading Daz and a bunch of random models from the high seas and doing the bare minimum to put them in a premade scene is that much better than just asking an AI do create the scene you want. People who cared about their craft learned to use these tools and create their own style with it, but we do have a very high amount of low effort "slop" in the scene that doesn't need AI to look and play terrible.

I don't like pure AI games, I don't like their look.
I don't think I've seen a game where AI has been used tastefully, it's either real slop with a ton of unnecessary animations and/or warping faces. I think AI can be a good tool for animations, scenery and to an extent for the actual look of the game.

My reasoning here is simple, VNs tend to have shit animations with a few frames on loop at a low frame rate and environments are basically all prefabs that have been seen in other VNs before.
However, basically all use of AI that I've seen for this lacks consistency and that is pure laziness.

However, judge it based on whether the use of AI is appropriate and doesn't result in a character with a poor or unstable personality. In terms of programming and other aspects, though, I think it’s fine.

It is like anything, you have to find the right balance. AI can bring incredible realism to certain types of games, but it will not replace well-crafted gameplay. Some games look gorgeous, but they are empty... those ones will not last long.
