Unlocked gallery from the beginning.

Prefer to earn for sure, but if I'm not enjoying a game and would drop it anyway, I don't mind full unlocking the gallery and just moving on to another game
1:1 this, fully agree
As long as i enjoy the game i wont spoil myself and ruin the fun but if i dont intent to finish the game and just delet it anyway id also just unlock gallery and then move on
 
I prefer it locked, but with an option to unlock. Sometimes a game just doesn't click for me and I don't want to be forced to play it to see the gallery.
 
I like having to win it, but I also don't like the game to be too complex, that's not the goal
 
where is fun in galery unlockers? earned prize taste better
 
No fun for me having it unlocked from the start. In fairness though an "unlock all" function would be useful when I have gotten bored and fallen off.
 
I like a blind first playthrough, so gallery locked. But then I'd like to suggest a couple of improvements:
  • The ability to click on a locked image and go to the point or decision in-game that triggers that locked path, so another one can be selected. I know this is programmatically extremely difficult, specially in games that use some kind of value-based branching, but it could negate the need for save scumming.
  • Hints for the locked images. Luckily, this is becoming more common.
  • The ability to both unlock the gallery, but relock it afterwards just for the scenes you have not "earned". This is something I have seen advertised for some mods, but has sadly never worked for me. This way you can judge if a second playthrough is worth it or not, but can still track your progress.
 
Do you prefer to have to earn the gallery or do you want it all available to you right off the bat, and why?
I personally prefer to be able to access it all right away, I don't think it detracts much from the accomplishment of earning it.

The first one is a very good idea, I like it. as for how hard it is, it shouldn't be that hard.
The second one is great as well.
The third one we already have, though you need cheats for that.

I mean, I was thinking just about Ren'py, and having no idea how it works (i only programmed in C a long time ago), I was concern for the amount of bugs this could generate, specially considering the long development cycle between updates... I assume for other generalistic engines like Unity it would be easier. Anyways, it would be a nice QOL improvement
 
I will usually play it first, then later unlock it or for later versions unlock it
 
Unless the game has a good way of intertwining the scenes with gameplay, I would prefer to have the gallery from the beginning. If I ever end up uploading here I'm definitely adding my save files so others can skip the boring stuff.
 
I play first to earn it but for japanese game i can skip and unlock from the start
 
I give a fuck about galleries and never checked one out. I save before every choice, so if i wanted to look at an old scene, i would just load a save leading to it.
But in html games i check the images folder before playing and delete everything with a dick so i dont run into them fullscreen.
 
You don't need to have it at the beginning but after finishing the game
 
I honestly prefer it unlocked myself as some paths I don't care to follow but some of the h scenes from those paths are still enjoyable
 
Depends on the game. If it's a RPGM or VSN that has mechanics then... give me the gallery lol
