i usually either mute it or put it on really low volume anyway. some games have the music so incredibly loud

So something that has come to my attention, games sometimes have music. This often doesn't and at other times does fit the mood of the game.

I am curious to hear what other people have to say about music in games?

I would love to get your opinions why or why not in your posts below the poll!
I tend to be indifferent to music most of the time, I mute the music and play something lo-fi or asmr whatever helps with the mood. Most music choices that games have tend to be a bit more distracting than helping you get into the story.

If it's just one song on loop for the entire game, I can do without it. If it changes up from time to time denoting a change in the story it can really add to the experience. Something like Final Fantasy fight scenes, but for the main story line, sex scenes, love scenes, mystery scenes... etc. In the film industry that's called "Micky Mousing". Using music to set the theme/scene. Usually it's frowned on because it's manipulative, but there's a reason it's used so mu ch. It works.

As long as there is a volume slider then yes, because sometimes you just load a game up and it just blasts you with sound.

Most the time the music is fucking to loud. I turn it off because of that. Also a lot of music is reused between games so I hate hearing the same shit on repeat.

I thinks sound design as a whole is something many games Dev's should see as a must have! In-regards to music I do think it is important but i feel that for every game that gets it right, 5 or more do lazily and half-assed.

Also i find that i constantly encounter songs that i have heard far too much off to the point that even hearing them causes me to enter a rabid state.

the right music can add a lot of immersion to a VN, the RIGHT music, if you put a single song over and over it's annoying

Yes when it fits the vibe of the scene and sometimes I play music from my playlist

Music is ok but it has to fit the scene. I always turn off permanent background music if it's in the game.

During the game I don't like it much, but at key moments it's cool!

Well, its a VN really dark but the ost of Sweetest Monster its beutiful, that its a good example of why the soundtrack its important (sometimes)

depends on if it's good music or not. If it's shit might as well not be there.

Most of the music that plays in the video games I've played doesn't fit the atmosphere. Sometimes yeah, it fits, but I prefer mute if the music destroy the moment.

music should be purposeful, it shouldnt be there just because someone complained about a lack of it
