Plot or Graphics?

Plot. VN or a game can be great in terms of rendering quality, but if there is a weak plot, they turn into a dull, boring action. As an example, Reunion and Amnesia.
At the same time, some text-only games can give such projects a 100-point head start against this background.

Yeah, well said. But I do feel like it depends on the type of game.

Plot always, but I was spoiled by graphics to the point where if the graphics in the game are too bad but the plot is good I'd rather read it as a book than continue playing it.

Personally, similar to what Darvahn said, I need at least okay graphics to get me hooked and then a good plot to keep me hooked. However, there have been instances where I've checked out games that haven't started well graphically, but have improved as the updates have gone on

The graphics have to do the job. That's a gamebreaker. If the plot is also amazing, that's rare. Obviously kinks have to match too.

graphics at least have to be passable and fit the theme of the game, plot can be a bit loose if the graphics can pick up the slack

I would rather look at character design than graphics in general, but if I have to choose between plot and graphics I would say it's like 65% graphics. I mean the plot is important and all but if the plot really sucks ass I can at least just focus on the graphics and fly through the text.

I think it's a sliding scale with the traits on either side. Ideally you have both story and graphics, but I can ignore sub prime story for some great graphics, and I'll look the other way on some graphics if the story is that good. If I had to choose one tho, probably graphics. But not like graphic fidelity, more character design and art style. If it's hot enough I'll just ignore the text on screen lmao

This is not really a or question! (I have played somewhere in the thousands of avns) You can have a plot with a shit graphics or graphics with shit plot, but what you really need is both. So, games get away with having a slow burn, but you need a good plot for that; most of those crash and burn before you even get the first sex scene. if your making an AVN, you need a mix of 50/50, 60/40, or 40/60. You can push it into 70/30 with a good plot, but you need animations. The old single-frame javn's style is dead. Most popular avns have them for a reason, which is the standard now.

I personally disagree, which just shows that different people enjoy and prioritize different things.
For me, 80-90 % of hotness comes from the writing, so if you have bad graphics and no animations but amazing writing, I'd still enjoy it a lot

I should have been clearer. I was not talking about enjoyment; I was talking about whether a game makes it to completion or gets abandoned. There's a pattern, and I agree with your statement that shows that different people enjoy and prioritize different things. (I am not counting slop or cash grab games; there are so many of those)

It mostly comes down to the player's experience with AVNs.
Newgamers usually focus on the graphics and don't mind cliché storylines, like the typical locker room outfit-rating scene since they haven't seen them a hundred times before.
But as players get more games under their belt, they start expecting better stories, and graphics become less of a priority.

I mean up to a point yeah both. BUT. If you've gone for a good stylised aesthetic like a pixelated theme, then you can do a hell of a lot less on aesthetics and it mostly still look pretty damn good.

Usually I'm plot first, unless I'm looking for a quick fix, in which case I'll come back to scenes from games I enjoyed that had the best graphics with animations (treasure of nadia, such a sharp pain, etc)

Third option, gameplay. Love me some managment game, or mechanics so fun and complicated that i forget that this is really a hentai game. I remember playing Kamidori Alchemy Meister and after like 40h of gameplay i had first hentai scene and i was like WTF is this, and then remembered that this is porn game xD

I'm pretty flexible with what visuals I can enjoy, but if I can't enjoy them almost no amount of good plot is going to make up for it. Even just text based would be better for me than bad visuals at some point.

I think a good plot isn't enough to guarantatee a good game, graphic is more important
