I scanned through the images, I haven't read through the entire script. I wouldn't quite say it looks gutted but there are some salient things missing that hopefully get reintroduced; a charitable guess would be they are maybe being moved into later releases for pacing reasons as Zoe's arc moved rather quickly for a first release, especially considering that it will probably intertwine pretty heavily with the daughters' stories. Also I could see progressing with her mother first to make her story more interesting/plausible, or giving explanations for her behavior. Regarding the daughters I don't think too much was changed, again I only looked through the images but if anything with them was altered much I would again hope that's chalked up to pacing. From what is still in there I don't think we're gonna get a neutered product.
My main disappointment with this release is that it's a complete rehash of the first. I know he rerendered and partially recoded the whole thing, but I think it would have been a better look to at least include a nominal amount more content to really highlight how his skills have improved and maybe make it easier to anticipate what's to come. However, from what I have seen, this looks like a promising base to build on going forward. Given that the code was heavily rewritten in 3 months (most of it is core mechanics that will serve for the whole game going forward, and therefore will not factor into upcoming release times), I anticipate future releases should hopefully include a lot more heft to the story and be well-paced, barring limitations with his rendering rig.
It looks like much of the next chapter is already written, giving weight the theory that he's being held back by the renders, and it doesn't look like it's going to be gutted--I just scanned it though as I wanted to avoid too much in the way of spoilers. The next release should be great based on what you can see if you know how to browse the game files.

While reasonable, unfortunately that is the end of many games as people don't return to finish afterward. Luckily in this case the dev has and the post has been updated with the latest version.

There seems to be a little bug with the MC's changeable family/last name. The family/last name (you change at the front of the game) only affects the MC, not the last name for the rest of the family.
You can still fix this yourself (till the dev fixes it) by using URM ("Universal Ren'Py Mod").
