Does step-"incest" kills the fetish for you?

Also hate that the dialogue is written like they were originally blood but the dev made them step at the last moment.

step gets confusing for me when theyre clearly written to be related, at that point at least try a patch to correct it

For me, "Step-" and true family are such different relationships from each other that it doesn't make sense to create an incest patch. It breaks the family dynamic, not to mention that completely different narrative elements are needed to develop convincing romantic and sexual relationships between the characters.

Step-Incest is not "real" Incest. Does nothing for me related to that tag. The game can be good despite being Step but for me it loses the "forbidden" appeal that is part of the reason that Incest is a popular genre of porn.
Completely agree with you.

It's totally situational. If (as has already been mentioned), there's a canon reason for it like in The Higher Society, or if it's a recently introduced relationship (i.e. parents recently married and blended the families) I can accept it, as long as it's written to reflect the "reality" of the situation.

If it's clearly the dev chickening out to appease some filter or payment processor, when it's clear they meant it to be full blood relations, I want a patch to put it back to the way it was originally intended.

I don't have any step siblings, but people I know with blended families will refer to their step siblings as "brother" or "sister" in normal conversation, only clarifying if it's relevant, so it's really jarring if in a game a character comes out with "Hey step-sis...".

Step may break all the magic, but you have to understand that it also makes it easier to monetize games. People, even game developers, have a bad habit of eating and paying bills.

I understand why devs make it step, but it does make me skip it

Yes, it's an unspoken truth. I would add that when you have to rename the protagonists, it's never a good sign.

I definitely hate it if they emphasize the fact their relationship begins with "step". But if the relationship is established well, the taboo aspect can still be quite strong. So although it's not a complete deal-breaker, I strongly hate it if it's only done to make the content acceptable on mainstream platforms.

I understand that most developers do this to allow their game to be sold on steam...
That's literally not true. Here are two very popular incest game sold on steam.

100% yes it kills it for me.
Seems like just a waste and shows no backbone on the side of the creator.
There are a few rare occasions where the step aspect is actual integral to the plot, but 99% of the time it's just pussy footing.

better stepcest sex than landlady tenant sex, gross. can you imagine jack tripper banging mrs roper or mr farley banging chrissy and janet in threes company. now, the brady bunch, that stepcest was so kinky the actors actually hooked up with each other.... k for realsies though, if the story is obviously mom son daughter, throwing in step is just stupid. luckily someone usually mods that shit if the rest of the game is decent enough, and then who cares.

As someone wise once said, "It's only good when they're blood-related", so yes it kills it for me

It does take the "immersion" out for me quite a bit. Usually it's pretty obvious of what kind of relationship a game or video is trying to convey and then trying to explicitly shoehorn "step-" into the dialogue usually just feels a bit comical. Either commit or don't.
