When it comes to brother-sister content, it doesnt make such a great difference to me. I understand that real siblings are more taboo than stepsiblings. But in most points, the same applies to stepsiblings: Grewing up together with the same "parents", in the same place, family athmosphere... No it doesn't. In fact i think it's not even the "step" part itself that kills it for people. Its the lazy way some devs used it to get around censorship. I think there are lots of ways 'step' can be used to make new situations in games and jp games have even done plenty of good ones themselves. Imagine your parent getting remarried and you're introduced to a girl younger than you who's shy and fidgety at first but starts staring transfixed like a moth at a flame. Suddenly you have a cute girl who you've never seen before or have any relation to you or prior reason for liking you trying to gain your favor and wanting to spend time with you and get to know you, culminating towards a scene where you either let things progress naturally towards a confession or giving into the depravity of taking advantage of this young, starved for love stranger who's fallen hard for you and sneaking into her bed in the middle of the night knowing that even despite her hesitance and confusion she won't fight back cause of how much she loves you.

I think situations like these are much more alluring when its cause the person genuinely falls for you the mc rather than it being an alley-oop from your ma or pa.

Usually I prefer it without the "step", and I reckon it is often thought up to be without the step thing. But they add it because of rules etc. Then there are some games where the step thing actually work. Like an evil step family. So it basicly comes down to the story for me, but for most of the time, if I can get a patch, I will us it.

Yes, but only if it's not established which is hard to explain. Like when you start a VN and it gives the intro and then the MC says "this is my roommate/step sibling" when clearly in that situation its a little bit more than that. But take something like "The Higher Society" where the MC isn't the canon biological father and that's established pretty early on. Or like in UC8 where the MC's daughter became a sister to another girl. I now understand why it has to be done the way it is, but it still irks my soul. Im pretty sure I've given up on a few VNs because of that exact reason. It kind of depends on the story circumstances.
