Do you prefer to play games on release day or wait a while?

Can’t trust that there won’t be a patch soon after release that censors or does something else to ruin the game these days. So I’m ok with waiting a few months before getting a game

It's a mix of both a lot of facts at play, cost, genre, story, and visuals,

I try to wait at least 3 updates (minor ones) before playing, Most of the time the big bugs are solved.

If it's a game I've had my eye on through development and I like what I see then I'll go immediately on release. If I don't know a ton about it I always wait for reviews, there's so many developers putting up slop now need a reliable way to sift through everything

And I have a rule: when a game is first released, if it's under 500 MB, I don't download it—I wait for the next update

I used to follow release dates quite tightly before, but nowadays not so much. I just suddenly realize there's a game I want to play weeks or months after release and then I play it lol.

I usually wait for a while for discounts and full dlc packages. but some nintendo games I do get day 1

I mean, a normal game, if we get the monetary issue out of the way, do you prefer to play it as soon as possible or wait a reasonable amount of time?

The thing is that for me it is not worth playing a game as soon as it is released on the market, ignoring the question of price, the developers take time to add content and fix things, look at cyberpunk as an example, 3 years until the dlc is released and the game is completed as such, an extreme case I know, but I have realized that if I give the games a year or so (I admit sometimes more) as a rule it is much better for me when it comes to play them, there are DLCs, the bugs and technical problems are gone, more free content, etc... the only games that I see worth having as soon as possible are those intended for multiplayer.

With all this I do not want to belittle those who buy them on day 1, they are the ones who basically maintain the video game companies, what I can criticize is the developers who, instead of launching games that lack some polish, launch unfinished games .
Usually wait for while and then do research if it's worthy

I always look at reviews first. If a game has stellar reviews I might consider getting it right away. Some games aren't going to change much after launch.

The reason I want to play some of these big games early is because I want to BE in the discussions while a lot of people are playing the game. I want to discover things the rest of the community may not have fully experienced.

Elden Ring is one of the games I can think of when I think of games you had to be there early for. The game had so many secrets and everyone was comparing notes with each other and sharing the things they've found that you haven't seen. There was a real sense of community and shared discovery.
