I mean, a normal game, if we get the monetary issue out of the way, do you prefer to play it as soon as possible or wait a reasonable amount of time?

The thing is that for me it is not worth playing a game as soon as it is released on the market, ignoring the question of price, the developers take time to add content and fix things, look at cyberpunk as an example, 3 years until the dlc is released and the game is completed as such, an extreme case I know, but I have realized that if I give the games a year or so (I admit sometimes more) as a rule it is much better for me when it comes to play them, there are DLCs, the bugs and technical problems are gone, more free content, etc... the only games that I see worth having as soon as possible are those intended for multiplayer.

With all this I do not want to belittle those who buy them on day 1, they are the ones who basically maintain the video game companies, what I can criticize is the developers who, instead of launching games that lack some polish, launch unfinished games .

As soon as possible, but also depends on when walkthrough is updated(if it's needed)

If i'm interested in a new game i usually wait for a few updates untill i play it. I hate when i'm playing a good game and has almost no content

People who buy day one are literally just beta testers. Waiting a month or longer is perfectly fine for me with a few exceptions. The game that truly taught me that lesson was Fallout 76 and I can't believe Bethesda got away with the bullshit they pulled with that game especially fallout first.

Exactly, you understand friend XD

for normal games i prefer play asap. But for VN's i avoid new releases because time gaps between new versions kill story continuation for me.

Completely depends on the game for me or, more importantly, the studio behind it. A FROMSoft game, for instance, I will buy day one. Some indie games, I'll buy day one - lower cost of buy in, want to support the dev. But then there are some games I will wait until deep, deep sales. Most Triple AAA games, I will wait. When I was younger, I preordered everything all the time, now that my time is more limited and business practices are scummier, I wait things out a lot more.

I'm pretty patient on this stuff. If it's something I've been waiting on bated breath for for several years I might be tempted, but usually there are so many games to play and sales happen early enough that I can just wait.

I dislike early access, basically you pay to be a beta tester, if at least they are games where it is cheaper at that moment it may have merit, but many times even when it is finished it is still at that price.

I've taken a firm stance of not buying games until the reviews are out. Doing my part to disincentivize releasing unfinished games. It's not like these companies need venture capital to pay their developers.

I use to be pre-order/get it as soon as I can minded, but these days i'm just waiting. the state that some games from the big studios are releaced in are just pathetic. biggest examples that affected me was;
cyberpunk, didn't get it on release. only after its big patch and have been loving it.
homeworld 3, pre-ordered and couldn't get into the early play, bug with steams dl button not showing. once i finally got in i quickly learned that it wasn't like the previous 2 entries at all. quickly got a refund.
rogue trade, super excited for it but when i learned that it had season pass stuff and extras coming down the line i said "stuff it". i'll get the full game later since i want to play a full experience from the get go.

It's better to wait. There are often bugfixes, and sometimes after an update is released, 3 bugfixes in one week follow at once. Discussions of the games I follow are open in my browser, so it's hard to miss something (on *95*, here for some reason very often do not notice updates, in general there are questions to the methodology of publishing updates*, and the discussion there is more mature).
*as an example. The first part of the Summertime Saga technical update is out. The content there is only about 15% of what it was before the technical update. Why was it necessary to remove links to the last full version? It would be more logical to keep links to the previous version and give links to the technical update.

I always wait for the games I buy to be patched and all the dlc to be released. I fill I get a better value for my money and I get just just as much enjoyment even if a game is a few years old by then.

The first and most important rule of the true gamer: Never pre-order anything!!!

Looks like I'm the only one here who has never bought games and uses pirated repacks:) Gentlemen, your social responsibility is admirable.

Depends. If there are comments that shit isn't working right I wait. ETA for non-adult games I can't remember the last time I bought a game.

In most cases I read different reviews of said game. If I can imagine that I will like the game depending on the review. I buy it.
There are some games that did not get the highest scores but are perfect for me.

The Sherlock games.....wonky but fun.

Oh! and I did buy CP2077 upon release. It was smooth sailing for me except I think 5 crashes in full play through. I lked it.
Now I love it.

Don't think I mentioned Early Access
But if that's the topic, yeah. I'm not an Early Access fan, except for some very special stand outs.

A normal game? I'd play it as soon as I can. That said, I don't ever preorder games unless it's something I really want by developers that I trust.

Oh,normal games depends more.. rule of thumb is that I wait a bit
