discussion How do you store and organize your games?

I have a folder called "Crap". That's where games go. If a game is unusually good, significant to the opensource and indie dev scene, "legally questionable" to the point of having to jump through hoops to find it, or the dev is known to be MIA/dead/etc; I'll save a copy of the last available build on a thumbdrive labeled "Legacy Crap". Everything on that drive is split between the folders "Sleeze" and "Normie". There are 5 titles on that drive.
That's it. That's both a fair snapshot of my psychology and my content management.

I Yo-Ho-Ho most of my games and store them on a 4TB portable SSD. The only downside(?) is I have over a hundred games I have not even played yet. I think my dumb brain is gathering them up so when the Zombies come I have plenty of games to play during the Apocalypse.

I don't. Wish I had time for games...

Joking aside, I use F95Checker since only 13% of the stuff I track isn't on F95. When they send something to the fyords I migrate it as a custom game. If it comes back, then it goes back.

As for actual storage, Folders by dev name or a "Short" folder for small one-offs.

I don't, once I am done with a game I delete it I never thought to keep them because the size piles up very fast. This becomes very annoying when I have to redownload the game for the content update, but I get to replay the game and remember it till I get to the new content.

I'm highly organized. These types of games all go directly to the desktop on another computer... Good ones I intend to keep, or waiting for updates, go in the bottom right corner. Stuff that's yet to be played are somewhere in the center.

Porn games? Nested in a series of folders - Random - Random - Sexy - Games - and delete them when I'm finished. PC or console games, I use a launcher called Playnite (which actually kind of sounds like a porn game) that brings in my entire library from multiple platforms like Steam or Epic. And I use Grouvee to keep track of every game I've ever played/reviewing them.

I'm clearly getting old now. Steam, Epic and the likes already keep track of what you have and have not played, no? Granted, I've just given Grouvee a cursory look so it's entirely possible I'm missing something.
Never heard of Playnite either, but that one sort of makes sense. However Steam allows adding non-Steam games so I'm not clear on the purpose?

Gotta encyrpt it, your laptop would be a stress-inducing hazard otherwise. Anytime you're showing something to someone on the computer or when sharing your screen. Game files can come up when searching for stuff, it's so easy to get busted.

They do keep track, but I was adding every game to Grouvee that I ever played on the NES, SNES, PSX, etc. It was a pain in the ass to compile but it is kind of neat to see my entire gaming history from 1990 onward laid out like that.

And while Steam does allow you to add non-Steam games, Playnite make it effortless. You can even connect your Nintendo and PlayStation accounts to add your games from those platforms. I highly recommend it. It's the best launcher I've ever used.

And getting old is only a frame of mind! And back. And knees.

Having never had a Nintendo, Playstation or other services account, it didn't even enter my mind. Thank you. Makes much more sense now.

For NSFW I don't keep the games once I've completed all the content. I keep a folder with the save files of games I'm waiting for the next releases of, and try to follow devs or game threads to get notified when new updates of said games are released. The risk here is I somehow accidentally deleted my saves folder a few months ago and now need to try and figure out which games I'm still missing, since the follow thread functions on various forums aren't always reliable and seem to get deactivated at times. I've been thinking about keeping a master spreadsheet or something, that way I'll also have a record of games I've completed and can have my own "hall of fame" for future recommendation requests.

For SFW, the vast majority are in Steam or similar, and I add any that I'm actively playing into a pinned category at the top of my library.

My system is an ever evolving mix of a personal rating system and an accompanying spreadsheet. I have a 2TB SSD dedicated to games, and lewd games are the bulk of it.
I have a rule I have to delete at least one game before I am allowed to browse for new stuff. Now I don't download most games. Only those that seriously catch my eye. Anything that at least piques my curiosity gets added to the spreadsheet. As I play a new game I update the spreadsheet before I delete the game or move it to the SSD for archiving in case it calls out to me again.

When someone asks for game recommendations I just skim the list and look for anything that seems related to the their request based upon my memory and is rated high enough I am not embarrassed to recommend it.

The spreadsheet has ratings, and links to the games thread on this and other sites.
