Do you prefer to play games on release day or wait a while?

With practically every game that gets released today being a complete bug fest and unfinished I'd rather wait until everything is fixed. I learned my lesson with Final Fantasy 15 when that was released and us that bought it then didn't even get the finished version that they released later on.

I dont really follow the development of real games, if i find something i want i get it, no matter if its one day or 10 years old.
For adult games it depends if i play it with mods or not.

It depends on the game itself, to be honest. If we are talking about a mainstream game I typically wait to hear reviews until it is a franchise game I really enjoy like Diablo. Now if we are talking about a Lewd VN I typically wait for games that are recommended to me or if the teaser images catch my eye I may give them a try on day one.

I mean, a normal game, if we get the monetary issue out of the way, do you prefer to play it as soon as possible or wait a reasonable amount of time?

With all this I do not want to belittle those who buy them on day 1, they are the ones who basically maintain the video game companies, what I can criticize is the developers who, instead of launching games that lack some polish, launch unfinished games .
I stopped playing/buying games on release when companies decided that its ok to release a buggy mess and patch it post launch about a decade ago. Games used to be done on release and only a few small bugs would ever be found outside of intentionally trying to get those bugs to happen ala speed runners. PS3/360 generation started having Day1 downloads and that was the start of the end for gaming. Why preorder a game if they're going to be buggy on launch plus if a game is good youtube/twitch will tell everyone and then you can get it.

I usually prefer to wait. It gives the first wave of players the opportunity to identify bugs and, if it's a VN with lots of different variables and routes, time for the modders to get their updates done. The exception is if I catch a kinetic on release date, or one that has very short updates, no mods, and I just happen to have finished whatever other update I may have been playing.

I used to be hyped for games. I used to download them on day 1.
No more. I've been burned so many times, it's not even funny. Cyberpunk was a disaster. Recently got burned with Starfield because it was garbage.
Then Rogue Trader which was so buggy for a full release that abilities for the game weren't working and had to skip several quests because they were unable to progress. Hell, had to leave one of the companions on the ship because he was bugged so badly that he turned transparent and couldn't equip gear.

I prefer nowadays to wait week or two for crucial patches to roll out, then play.

I've been burned to many times buying on day one. Wait a while and see the reviews.
I usually wait until a DLC comes out and they sell the base game for next to nothing.

absolutely depends on the game for me. i trust a company like fromsoft to make a quality product consistently, and am happy to play them right away. however, plenty of other companies make games i'm only mildly interested in and then i'll wait for impressions

I play AVNs only when completed.
All other "regular" games ... I definitely wait until it's really released, so I usually don't play any early access or alpha/beta crap.

Used to play on release day cos i preorder.
Nowadays though i usually wait for reviews or for a sale. Unless i really want that game(usually 1 or 2 games in a particular year).

Most modern games are shit tbh, i usually wait for sales. Last game i preordered was Elden Ring but it was worth it imo

If I like the description, tags and renders, I play right away and then look at the size of the update when it comes out. if the update is short, I try to wait until several are released to get more content

ASAP, as to avoid spoilers. Usually I have to wait some discounts or I'm busy doing other things, so I just can't, but if I had to choose, it'd be immediately.

I try to wait until the games are in a more stable state, don't care much for spoilers.
Then again I don't play many AAA titles recently.

I take a decision after playing the game a bit. I bought Hades when it was initially launched and didn't regret it. There were a few updates for bugs, but that's it (Supergiant normally doesn't launch DLC).
And I enjoyed the feeling of playing when everyone else was doing it

But I usually don’t play long games more than once, so for Elden Ring I waited until some DLC came out. I should probably start playing it now, though

For adult games it depends. For the others the answer is never, I have neurons and shit.

I usually play as soon as its released and if its any good keep playing every new update.

I mostly just wait on a couple of updates.

If I really like the game I try to play as soon as possible. Others usually give some more time.

I plays the games as soon as they out unles they out after 10pm then i play them the next day .
