Do ratings affect whether you download a game?

Yes, but only to a certain percent. Many people have different tastes so bad reviews on certain tags/kinks is normal. I think my favorite games so far have been 3.5/5's wherever reviewed. Basically, 1 star is "it very much most likely sucks", a 5 star is "almost certainly is good or has something in it everyone would like", 3-4 stars "could be completely you or very very much not."

No, I usually don't even check it, I just try it myself and then judge

Yeah, usually if a game is rated really poorly, I don't bother with it. Anything under three stars is enough to make me skip it—unless there's a specific fetish that really catches my attention.

Tags are more important to me than ratings. A lot of times I see people rate a game based on current development rather than the quality of the game.

mostly check the preview images and if it looks interesting I download

I don't pay attention to the number of stars a game has; first, I read the reviews. If the reviewer provides detailed, well-reasoned arguments proving that the game is rubbish, and if there are enough such reviews, then I ignore those games. Unfortunately, there are a lot of such games.
Please excuse any mistakes—English is not my native language.

Not at all. I'm look at tags and visuals.

Low ratings makes me look into the game more to see what it's like
if the look at the preview pictures and it looks good + it shows anything that isn't just scenes in game I'll debate trying it
I pay more attention to ratings if its a game using AI
I completely ignore low rated AI game though I'll give high rated AI games a look

no for me ratings dont really matter what i look at are the engine, tags, version, previews and if i need some more convincing i read the comments in the discussion thread

I don’t really care about ratings. I just look at the art and tags—if it catches my eye, I’ll give it a try.

at 3.5 it might just be a matter of taste, anything below that however is def indicative the game sucks.

Yes, don't really bother with less than 4 starts. Reason being most people are pretty fair on the side of leniency in my experience, so if the game does not have a good score, it's either not engaging enough for people to leave a review or has some serious downside - not enough content, too many bugs, etc

I mostly look at genres and images.
Do I see kins that interest me right now?
Do images show appealing art style?
Do I get uncanny valley feeling from character faces?
Lastly, extra downloads like locked content unlocker, cheats or walkthroughs.

When looking at games, do you pay attention to the ratings?

If so, do 'low' ratings make you less likely to download a game?

What are your thresholds for being wary of, or even not downloading a game, based on its rating?

Personally, when there's enough ratings, I generally am wary of anything below a 4/5, and unless in an exceptional situation probably wouldn't download a game under 3.5/5.

If the rating is really low, with a decent amount of reviews, then I won't even look at the game. I'll read over the reviews if it's in the 3 star range then decide. 4 or 5 starts, I'll download the game if it interests me.
So to answer the question, yes rating do make a difference.

Tags and Comments are deciding factor. Other peoples opinions (ratings) are generally wrong so not useful

Exactly! Normally I look at the graphics and the tags. If I like them but see a low rating, I go straight to the comments and see what's wrong. Normally I read only the negative comments and see if they are justified and conclusive for me.

It's best I think to look specifically at the negative ratings, because some truly awful blueballing, etc games have very high ratings. Usually there are some at least for that (if Fuck95 doesn't delete them for whatever reason - it's almost impossible to make a negative one they won't find a reason to.) Also, on that site a lot of the devs' friends come to give 5 star ratings I'm almost sure.

Some very fair points Matt, and something to take into consideration when looking at a games rating.

With 19 pages of comments, I didn't take the time to read them all, just spot checked on my way to the last post. If I managed to read the average response correctly, I appear to agree with the majority. If a game has tags I am interested in, I ignore ratings, read the comments, check the preview pics. The last deciding factor for me is file size, if it's bloody huge, I will sometimes pass just because it will take too long to DL. my 2 **

not really sometime they can be hidden gems
