Apparently, the mass string of DDos attacks on similar sites made Vistarrr want to keep the site up, because he was peeved that in the last moments of ATF being up it had also been hit with hundreds of ddos attacks. The notices he got about the server status annoyed him.
Vistarrr's quote:

(in a later post he had replied to a question someone asked about him being sure it was ddos and not site scraping. thats when he mentioned the hundreds of alerts pissing him off, but im too lazy to copy/paste that too. so yeah.)
So it was essentially spite. Pure, unadulterated spite is keeping ATF alive.
Forced threads like this are ones we need too. Not just bad news *oops, site broke but we're on it* threads, but ones that just give good news and happy vibes about the site are great too. Not everything is doom and gloom. This thread actually made me happy.
Oh, and happy birthday to you, no shame of being post twenties or sub forty. I'm a few years shy of the big 4-0 myself and aside from all my joints, muscles, nerves, brain, organs hurting, its not too bad. (i take that back, i moved my hand from the keyboard to the mouse to post and my shoulder popped painfully. ow.)

I try to stay away from all social-media stuff, I don't like getting spammed and it feels unhealthy, since I deleted Whatsapp (my only source to social-media) I feel way more healthy, it feels like all that stuff drains your life.
Yeah it was already started in certain countries by law and the new Discord owners have delayed the implementation for a year worldwide after the negative feedback.

Worst part is that people just accept it (better said have no might to say anything against it), I kinda feel the internet will die out slowly due to all those dystopian surveilance-laws slowly but steadily
The free open internet dream that it was supposed to be has already died. It's all about controlling and getting your information nowadays.
