discussion Do ratings affect whether you download a game?

Not really and I usually don't read them. I have seen bad stories with good ratings and good stories with lower ratings. Lot of white-knighting going on with some of the bad games and a lot of jealousy going on with good games.

I look at the sample renders to see if I like the LIs and if the work is of good quality, and I look at the tags to see if there are any I don't like. If the renders look good and the tags don't drive me away, I will put it on my watch list and then look at the beginning and end of the thread to see what people are arguing about and decide if I want to keep watching and finally download one day.

gotta have above 3 personally. If it's below 3 that tells me that there's some fundamental gameplay that bars people from even accessing jackable materials. Which is the point. I'm not playing porn games to NOT jack off

sometimes it's inflated because there's only a handful of ratings in which case I'll judge it by tags and screenshots. A 5 star with two reviews and bad thumbnails is a skip

Not really. I will say that I'm not a big fan of anime or Japanese style cartoons and prefer the 3dcg/Ren'Py style of drawing, but that's just MY preference.

If people are writing useful info in their reviews then yea it can determine whether or not I download something, if it's a single brain cell review or it only has a rating without a review I more or less go with my gut.

I never pay attention to the ratings. I'll read the comments, tags, and look at the screenshots. Not having screenshots is a big one.

3/5 is the lowest I’d go.

I don’t subscribe to the “so bad it’s good” philosophy; I just value my time.

Ratings are usually a pretty good indicator of quality.

The only outliers are the top-rated 4.5+ games. I don’t get why they’re considered the best when I personally enjoy the 3.8–4.3 range more.

Yes, i usually go by the photos, unless it has a lot of reviews and a very low note. in that case i will read and decide

definitely do, anything under 3 need to have some pretty good CG or hit a good kink.

As many have said, lower than 3-stars means the game is probably doodoo but I'll still give it a chance if it has a niche kink that I like or the screenshots look good. That being said, some 5-star games have made me question other people's intelligence. A game could have terrible pacing, a terrible MC, and require 20+ hours of reading before we get to second base with a girl, but people will give it 5-stars because it has MILFs and appeals to the most normie/boomer audience possible.
