I think its way too easy to make shitty games with rpgm that I kind of just automatically assume every game made on it is shitty.

And the problem is you're correct 99.9% of the time haha. They are either shit quality, or filled with shit grind.

I don't know if someone mentioned it already, but the same thing happens with unreal engine, where 90% of devs reuse the same popular assets from the store, so everything looks the same
RPGM is like cranking that effect to the max lmao

custom tileset, characters, animations and plugins can make the engine feel good

This is one of those things where it just comes down to the dev. Yeah, it's really easy to knock out some crap game, but I think it they put the work into, they can make some genuinely good games.

Have played maybe 2 great RPGM games but also by faaaaaaaaaaaar the worst games I have played have been RPGM games

Simple answer is because it is shit. Anything that can be done on it would be much better on Ren'py.

I find that mass majority of RPGM games are shitty and shallow. From a game dev standpoint I also find the game engine, if you can call it one trash. It's outdated and too restrictive. One would much be better served with Godot ( ). On the other hand how many of you actually know about RPG Paper Maker?

I personally don't really find RPGs enjoyable for porn games, and it doesn't help that most games that use RPGM look like shit. Also, some good RPGM games get Ren'Py ports/remakes, so it's also a way for people to enjoy those stories rather than actually playing the RPGM version

I'm here for AVNs.. not AVGs.

I think The Princess and the Tower demonstrates how to effectively integrate tile-based gameplay into a porn game, whereas RPGM games typically integrate porn content into a tile-based game.

I think the problem lies in Grinding, the RPGM games have mostly a lot of grinding a lot of meaningless quests

I played quite a few in the past, but I don't have the patience for that kind of playstyle anymore. There may be some exceptions that have the roaming around very toned-down.

And the having to navigate is the absolute worst thing, especially when they - like 99% who use it - use the horrible default map graphics that are from like 1985.

Yes the old school design is not that intuitive but i understand creating a map in RPGM is kinda fun.

I just if I see it's RPGmaker, I don't download.

RPG Maker makes it very very easy to create a basic game. That means it's very interesting for people who aren't experienced developers. And that means that you'll get many games by people who don't really know how games work.
So you get absurd stories without buildup or good characters design. You get lots of walking around without purpose and nothing to discover. You get meaningless combat without stakes and without a good combat feeling.

So with most games being the product of inexperienced devs, AI artists trying to make some easy money, or a cheap walk around and watch CGs game, the vast majority of people simply haven't played a good RPGM game or even seen one from a distance.

RPG Maker is a tool - when you use it the right way, for the right games, it works. When you don't, it doesn't.

You can find similar problems with Renpy, Unreal, Unity or Godot.
For instance, Renpy games that create combat systems? Very static, slow, boring and generally not fun.
Unreal games where you can walk around and not do anything and all you can do is watch sex animations with clipping issues where you spend most of the time finding a good camera angle?
Those games just don't understand the advantages of their engine and don't seek to make a game that uses what the engine is good at.

well for me it's a mixed bag. UI and sound (fucking volume!!!) sucks.
on the other hand the concepts, gameplay and fetishes are often more to my taste.
Yet with rpgm games it feels like that there is waaay more shovelware going around.

Combat systems really don't belong in adult games.

Pretty sure sex combat games beg to differ. As would all games that actually have a good story that feature conflict that the player can resolve through combat.

You seem to really like bold universal statements that are really just a reflection of your personal taste. :ROFLMAO:

I think the simple answer is RPGM's flooded the market and were badly designed or implemented. If they are users first or more often experience I can see people being turned off by them. Sandbox games suffer from the same problem. Good ones are really good but the bad ones are more frequent and people will encounter them more. Good RPGMs are fun.
