Is "milking" real?

Of course this phenomenon exists. The Summertime Saga and Milfy City mentioned above are the most prominent examples, but not the only ones.
On the other hand, attacking developers who stick to a firm update schedule - once every three or four months - for sometimes going 3-5 days beyond their own deadlines is silly. Gentlemen, you've been fed fables by individual developers for years and you're eating it up. And here - the release is 4 days overdue! Shame! Milker deteсted!

The clearest example in my mind is Summertime Saga, they have been working on a tech update for years and have only just released it, will their update frequency improve, of course not.

People are too quick to accuse devs of milking, but it is absolutely a real phenomenom.

Just look at Summertime Saga they literally removed 90% of the content and said "Teehee we'll add it back gradually in the course of a year"

I think it's definitely a thing, but there's nuance to it.
There are absolutely devs who knowingly lie to their supporters about work being done/delays when they're really just kicking back because they know the've built a nice crop of blindly faithful supporters.
There are also devs who drag things out unnecessarily not because they want to take advantage but because they've convined themselves it's necessary.

I thought all porn games were made for milking, 99.8% of them are raw, pre alpha garbage, ngl

Especially those imps who demand subscribing to one's patreon, coffie, onlyfans etc

But then you have Devs like WW from Superhuman, Moonbox from Grandma House, and Story Anon from Out of Touch! that release so much content in such a short time. Some people may not like their games but they deliver.

I feel it absolutely happens but also people are too quick to cry 'milking' if an update is a couple days too late or the storyline they're personally interested in is going too slowly for their tastes. But it absolutely does happen and when it does it's very scummy behavior.

I can't say for sure how common it is but it certainly exists. Man if I were a game producer I'd keep churning shit out at whatever pace is deemed passable if it could manage a decent effect on my wallet. But that's easy for me to say seeing as I don't have such a passion for world building,

Milking is real. There are times when people accuse a dev of milking when they are not.

People sure talk a lot about devs supposedly milking - ie, deliberately dragging out production because so long as they keep getting their monthly pledge, they get more money for the same output. And there can be no doubt that devs often start out releasing significant updates regularly, which over time become less substantial, less frequent, or both. But is this always (or even mostly) 'milking'?

The accusers often talk about the 'perverse incentive' of the monthly pledge system and on paper they have a sound argument. If a dev is getting $800 a month, they make $2400 for 300 renders if it takes them three months, $8 per render. They make $800 if it only takes them a month, $2.67 per render.

OTOH, I've seen devs talk about 'churn' in pledges. That there's always a lot of people dropping off and signing up, even if the total number of pledges is fairly stable. They've said that most sign-ups occur immediately after a release. If true, that somewhat lessens the perverse incentive effect.

And I've done some writing and other creative stuff - it's hard! And if you care about it being good, that's even harder. What do people think?
It happens all the time if a dev is making $800 a month thats a pretty fair pay if they put in 30-40 hours of work (especially if they dont live in america) but what about the Devs that are bringing in a full time salary (~3k a month) from patreon and not delivering on top of it. 'Churn' is what happens with people who refuse to pay for them to not produce content. Patreon can now allow you to essentially 'sell' single posts contents but devs are often too lazy to set up a paid download page for people who want to 'churn.'

It happens with all the great games. Longer development times that will never see a finished product (at least in my lifetime).

Of course, but this one is bad, unlike the other types of milking (if you know what I mean)

Moneys money. People are always looking to make more with less effort.

yes, patreon milking, as in, artificially extending the length of the project is real.
anything that involves money x time will be milked, construction workers do that as well if you let them
