In addition they move, their hardware was broken and they had no money to replace it immediately and so on. That updates takes more and more time and getting smaller, must not be reasoned in milking. Especially not with games which have to many decisions and different paths. And sometimes you can say in the beginning, that a developer will struggle with his game sooner or later, because it will become to complicated soon.
And sometimes developers just vanish. For example the one developing "Midlife Crisis". It happens not rare as well.
