Is "milking" real?

This happens often. If all the people over the world would become sick so frequently, one half would be in hospital and the rest would work there. In addition they move, their hardware was broken and they had no money to replace it immediately and so on. That updates takes more and more time and getting smaller, must not be reasoned in milking. Especially not with games which have to many decisions and different paths. And sometimes you can say in the beginning, that a developer will struggle with his game sooner or later, because it will become to complicated soon.
And sometimes developers just vanish. For example the one developing "Midlife Crisis". It happens not rare as well.
If a developer is really sick, he stops the payments on Patreon and doesn´t charge anybody.
 
Probably often to do with overly high expectations of how much money they'll make quickly, and the reality hitting motivation to continue to put out quality content.
 
Definitely. Look how many go months (or even over a year) with no updates, but keep from getting the dreaded "A" tag by keeping posting bullshit like images, wallpapers, etc on their Patreon.
 
Sure, it is human nature to try to maximize gains while minimizing effort; in just about every area of human endeavour. Stands to reason some game devs will do it too
 
Is milking real? Do you really think, for example, the Summertime Saga dev is not milking their fanbase?
With the amount of money they have made, that game should have been finished by 2020-2021. And already have a second game with years in development.
 
People sure talk a lot about devs supposedly milking - ie, deliberately dragging out production because so long as they keep getting their monthly pledge, they get more money for the same output. And there can be no doubt that devs often start out releasing significant updates regularly, which over time become less substantial, less frequent, or both. But is this always (or even mostly) 'milking'?

The accusers often talk about the 'perverse incentive' of the monthly pledge system and on paper they have a sound argument. If a dev is getting $800 a month, they make $2400 for 300 renders if it takes them three months, $8 per render. They make $800 if it only takes them a month, $2.67 per render.

OTOH, I've seen devs talk about 'churn' in pledges. That there's always a lot of people dropping off and signing up, even if the total number of pledges is fairly stable. They've said that most sign-ups occur immediately after a release. If true, that somewhat lessens the perverse incentive effect.

And I've done some writing and other creative stuff - it's hard! And if you care about it being good, that's even harder. What do people think?
In terms of milking, it is but it isn't as common as people make it out to be. In the time I've only seen one actual case of this, that being Ecchi Sensei. Originally it wasn't done as offensively blatant, but, towards the end, it just became a constant case of, "oh I'm working on it, contribute to my patreon, more money please" without even a sign of progress on the patreon. Overall, it's really unfortunate because it wasn't a shitty game by any means
 
Also, look at shit like AWAM - nearly 8 years in and no actual sex other than bad sex with her husband. The blueballfest games are absolute milking.

I dropped that years ago when it was obvious the incest content was going nowhere. And the wife cheating her husband aspect was not real because she acted like a Nun.
 
Honestly I thought this thread was more about being milked :cry: sooo many lessons to the little sis wasted.
More on topic, hell yeah devs do the bad milking all the time. Big Brother, Summertime Saga, Milfy City, Wildlife etc. It's the downside of early release or in-dev games, the incentive is to never complete the damn thing once it starts getting a following (and release the least "acceptable" amount of content per update).
Unfortunately most of us would also happily release the least effort possible when it has a monthly donation of 10k+ and completing the game would end that.
Also once abandondoned a % of ppl will forget to unsubscribe and you can move on to the next scam while still coining it. Good business model for some I guess
 
Dude it totally is. Bones Manor has "leaked" images to keep people excited, but doesnt release a build but once a year.

of course it's real, some developers even do it without trying not to look like it. the susceptibility rate to illness with prolonged downtime is surprisingly high among developers :ROFLMAO:

I've said before, if we believed all the devs, being an AVN dev would be the most dangerous job in the world. Not just to them, but their family like when they have 5 grandmothers die, etc. I keep waiting for one to say like their dick fell off or something - or like they were fapping too hard and accidentally ripped it off.
 
That stuff only works in games too outlandish stories about why a game is late or the content stopped, or updates cease. It would never fly in the movie business. Where you make one flop and you end up in movie jail forever, or if you are lucky and connected you can fail upward. But in the AAA game business one bad business decision or bad game can destroy a studio.
 
In my humble opinion, yes it is real. We mere mortal consumers of adult games have no idea how much money these creators earn monthly just for programming games, of course I don't take credit for the difficulty and effort involved in such an act, but I believe that seeing so much money coming in goes to the head and they start to farm on supporters and this is very wrong. I will never forget: A WIFE AND MOTHER because the game has been running for years and many are complaining because it doesn't have decent scenes, just beautiful graphics and little action. A game doesn't survive just on pretty graphics and endless lines of dialogue. MY OPINION ONLY.
