Is AI used to create VNs a good or bad thing?

AI for help with coding fine.
AI for images no way. I have seen too many mistakes in AI images especially with hands and feet. I have seen AI images of person with three arms or legs or legs bent 90 degree wrong way.

I think the "AI is just a tool" argument kind of overlooks the impulse that fuels the hype: a disinterest in learning to use a tool.

The biggest issue with AI, to me, is the lack of consistency. Consistency is already a huge hurdle for artists drawing and rendering their own scenes, and AI just exacerbates it. It feels like it occupies this awkward space where you'd want to use it to avoid learning the hard lessons of drawing, or staging and lighting a scene in DAZ, but then you wind up generating slop that's only potentially appealing if you spend time fixing it in Photoshop.

Why not start with the goal of of owning your creativity instead of stumbling backwards into it while trying to fix shitty AI output?

I'm most interested on how you can interact with characters using AI. There are things that ai will be able do which writers can't feasibly accomplish. NPCs just aren't that interactive in any game to date regardless of genre.

Unfortunately currently like 99% of AI VN's are utter crap because people think thats all they need to do in order to make a good VN. Then you get a million firs timers who try and realize oh shit I have to know how to write too! I've even seen people then try to AI themselves a script too and it's always just as bad haha. IDK maybe in a few years when the tech has matured though.

To me its bad. From what i see in AI yes it has its advantages but its lazy. Also the models looks so manufactured. They all suffer the same face syndrome.

Pro: Solo devs who can't or are bad at drawing can make pictures for their games.

Con: Some will say it take the job of the drawers, but nothing stop them to use the same tools and do a better job.

Only good if the dev is actually competent in creating AI art to create consistency between images, which very few are.

First of all, the issue of deepfakes and ages is already a reality. Like a week after stable diffusion was released, Twitter was flooded.

We as a community needs to create our own boundaries. We cannot, nor should we stop the existence of AI, but we CAN control how we interact with it. The concern around deepfakes are an absolute concern. Not just with the age problem, but also a problem for public recognition.

The last thing in the world we need is for the general public to turn their attention towards adult gaming. We are a pretty niche culture, and it needs to stay that way. Deepfakes puts us in a bad position where an outspoken celebrity, or streamer, to fly into a rage because someone created a deepfake game about them.

So, despite my personal opinion surrounding deepfakes, I honestly believe that we as a community should ban them. I also think we need to be cautious about using real porn for the same reason. A Spell For All caused some porn stars to get pissy once already and we need to avoid that if possible. Luckily that trend is falling out of style, so it isn't a major concern atm.

_____

Other than deepfakes, I'm actually in favor of AI being used MORE. As the technology gets better, so does the text and image generation. I think it provides far more benefits than negatives.

It increases content output. The worst part of adult games is the wait. Nothing is worst than finding a game you thoroughly enjoy, only to wait a year for an update. By then, you've forgotten everything about the game and have to replay it only to enjoy it less the second time and for there to be little new content.

Furthermore, we only realistically have 3 sources for images which makes the art of most games feel identical. As AI gets fine tuned, we will start seeing new, and unique art styles which is nice. It can also help get rid of the limitations that our current rendering software provides.

Lastly is the benefit that comes with writing. Not only can AI assist in an overall improvement to translations and grammar, but it can also act as a tool to help develop new ideas. While there are still unique scenarios that appear from time to time, we continue to see identical events time and time again. Especially events surrounding sex.

By using AI tools, developers could potentially discover and create new and unique events and scenarios that events that simply elevate adult games as a whole.

My main problem is lack of consistency. AND there is so much of it. A lot of it just looks... off.

I think it is a good begining. Once the AI image generators evolve enough to be consistent enough without needing to create 1 mil images and then take the ones that kind look like the character you want in order to create a functioning lora for them, it will become better. For now.... I am willing to give the game a chance if the tags interest me and I am willing to ignore some six fingered hands, but my hopes are never really high.

I think it's a great idea. AI has made some beautiful artwork. I don't see any disadvantages to using AI

I have no issue with AI in VNs as long as the characters are consistent and the game has decent writing to keep it together.

AI is bad, not the technology but the current implementations. They are built using stolen art, which is bad for everyone. It can never create something truly new, only steal bits of other peoples work to cobble together something that appears new, and often not very well.

As for use in games, ignoring the above its still bad because the characters will always be slightly different between pics which is just super damn weird.

All that matters to me is that the story is good. It doesn't have to be believable.
So if an AI produces something that entertains me then great.

no issue with it personally. i dont really understand the insane levels of hate it can get some places. that being said though, much the same as CGI in film, it should be used in moderation in combination with traditional work. working together they should produce a quality product much faster. but using only ai, much the same as using only CGI, makes things look crappy and fake.

A real double-edged sword this! Using AI could make creating VNs much easier; the more often it is used, the more adept it become in helping the creation process. This is a plus point to anyone with good story ideas, but little-to-no experience in the complexities of Ren'py, Unity, etc. However, the use of AI to, for example, improve graphics could cause major problems. Renders and shadow accuracy are already making what are ostensibly cartoons into very realistic-looking characters - realistic enough to have the censorship brigade foaming at the mouth. With AI though, that level of realism could easily be taken to dangerous levels; dangerous enough for it to become difficult/impossible to differentiate between created artwork and real photos of real people (deepfakes are already there). Now let's take this to the next stage: animation, or worse still, animation involving chars who look young.......you can all get where I'm heading here.

I'm genuinely concerned where this potential censorship nightmare could be heading.......Any comments or observations??
its currently terrible, just like the constant use of low quality 3ddaz spam. Eventually it will probably be "good enough" and start taking over completely and the market will become EXTREMELY saturated with such content. It's only a matter of when really.

I don't like Ai, maybe it's because I'm an amateur artist myself and the idea of Ai replacing me is kinda scary, but maybe that fear is only in my head and maybe Ai can actually helped the process of creating art.

yeah, you can relax there. most of that notion is baseless fear. any art ai has to be trained on something in order to do anything. meaning there will always be a requirement for artists to exist so the ai has something to be trained on. they, as they currently exist (they aren't actually AI, but a combo of prediction algorithms designed to mimic) they can never replace actual artists.

Personally, I think AI-made games or images are wrong. Some of them look like real people. And I especially don't like it when children are portrayed like that, it feels completely wrong. That's why it's better to use normal games or pictures made by hand and also promote those people who still put their heart and soul into their works instead of making them with AI.

Every art is stolen art. Be it in music, painting, everything. You as an artist can only generate art based on your past experiences, not out of thin air. There is very little to nothing "truly new"
exactly this. the notion that ai art is art theft is literally anti-ai propaganda. if an artist sits down and paints "a picasso" they are inspired by the work, nobody says they are stealing it. its only once ai gets mentioned that anything outside of direct copy suddenly gets called "theft" all the ai does is mimic style its trained on through predictive algorithms, the same as an artist ultimately mimics the style they were taught when they learned to draw or what have you.
