sandbox and kinetic novels. sandbox because i usually don't know what to do next and will probably miss an important event that can help my character out or something and kinetic as at that point, it's not really a game in my opinion.

I agree on sandbox, but I don't mind kinetic novels. If I'm being honest, I'll use a walkthrough whenever it's available, so I'm practically playing most games as kinetic novels.

I think the closest I've come to enjoying a sandbox is Treasure of Nadia, and only because it had the Soul Crystal to keep you pointed in the right direction, and was more about solving puzzles than grinding experience.

For game format, it's sandbox and kinetic novels. Too many repeat events for the first, and I like choices in VNs.
For tags, definitely guro/snuff and scat. Scat is just gross but what kind of person gets off on mutilation and death?

I don't mind sandbox in other engines but a sandbox in renpy is always awkward janky and ruins the game. Also don't touch games with mmf content

I don't understand the hate I see all the time for kinetic novels. Isn't it basically equivalent to a comic book or graphic novel?

If it has good story and all that, isn't it still worthwhile to experience?

I feel it *can* be, but you'd have to essentially have a perfect story thought out. the reason why games with more choice are great, is because you can avoid characters you dont feel 100% about liking, or certain kinks/sex scenes you just plain don't want. with kinetic, you're solely at the authors whims for EVERYTHING (and while you can say this is true for normal style VNs too, which it is, at least the player has some agency to choose not to do things they don't like in those usually)

multiple protagonist -> multi protag = no protag, also - narrative clusterfuck
swinging/sharing -> turns into free-for-all fuckfest, and also not my thing
real porn -> no effort, never fits, looks out of place

Quality matters to me more than most other things. For example, I'm not going to specifically seek out games with the foot fetish tag but I wouldn't immediately turned off if I ran into it either. If a dev spent the time to make a really well done foot fetish scene then I'd be down to at least give it a shot. In the end, if I don't like the scene then I can use the skip button.

I guess that ironically makes me prefer quantity in certain ways. For example, I pretty much never never avoid a love interest. They are the main content of adult games and I want to experience as much as I can in a single playthrough. Same for video games, I'd rather not skip over bosses, levels, quests, etc. because that is the "game" to me.
