A porn game with story have more longer pay off than porn game with just sex. But there has to be a certain balance and amount. Too much story and we get bored and leave. Only mindless sex, sure we can get a quick wank but then we leave. Some kind of carrot on a stick, a reason why the sex happens and reactions can go a long way.
Then comes the fact of if we like the character. Sure a hot character are fine but if we like that character, is just the seasoning on the steak.
Mindless sex can become very comical very fast, but too much focus on a story and entire books of usually terribly translated story can easily kill any interests in a H game.
There has been a handful of games i did not bother playing through the intro because it took almost 40 minutes of text skipping.
However, in some very rare cases there have been hentai games that actually gripped my interest and even those of the characters. Actually playing it to see how it ends and what happens to the characters can make a hentai scene much more rewarding... or worse if it forsakes everything it build upon to be "Haha sexy time!" A real hard balance to upkeep, specially with everyone having different tastes and thresholds.
