Yea basically this.
To be honest the AVNs in the 90s were the epitome of literature. It was a medium to tell a story to the audience.
We don't get that nowadays, its all just fuckfest harems and fetishes.

I genuinely hate when dev is stalling as much as he can with the sex scenes. Don't get me wrong teasing is all good but without a sex scene in a game for example year in development that's getting really tedious...

I don't really mind not having sex scenes instantly if the setup to it is hot. But yes LOTS of sex scenes

I have really high hopes for this one, since it is the main area that is severely lacking in Western adult games (and where Japanese VNs rule supreme) and the most difficult one to fix. How would one even go about to hire voice actresses that can speak decent English and willing to do so for an erotic game with any type of perversions? Rendering and animations are improving at a staggering rate which will only increase as AI tools are more powerful. Even with these advancements though, the main problem is the development teams.

One developer and one publicist/media relations person down the line, do not cut it. A game, even as basic as a VN has many important components: writing (story, characters, dialogue), visuals (still renders, animations, maps), programming (this can be very simple in case of a kinetic novel, but easily spiral out of control in sandbox games, with the dev reworking the code base for ages), sound (voice acting, music, sfx) and of course direction. These are very different skillsets and to become proficient enough in all of them requires years of churning out half-assed games and will probably not be satisfying for the dev. Most developers start with solo projects, which are perfectly fine if kept short. The problem is, once financial support starts, these games usually evolve into unmaintable monstrocities which are often abandoned or finished in a hurry. It's not like there is an open market to find other people to fill in all those roles, but collaborations between artists and developers, encountered in communities like this (and zone), should become much more prevalent.

Also people (developers and backers both) should stop using Patreon. Mainstream tv channels in ass-backward countries are more relaxed with what content they host.

I find that if a non-english made game has at least lvl 5/10 story, that translations are the most important thing. It really kills my immersion if words are missing or if they grammar and typos are too rampant
