You're mistaking me, I don't look down on sci-fi/fantasy, just pointing out that speculative fiction in general has always been thought of as second rate. I'm not personally a fan of fanfiction but I know of authors today that cut their teeth in that arena and hold fanfiction up as valuable and worthy of attention. Just because it's not published or widely known doesn't make it worth scoffing at.

In any case, I am grateful for this exchange of views. It was almost the first time I met a person on this resource with whom, if only briefly, I could talk about really interesting topics.

I only ask for some sense and logic, it is not necessary to make everything happen in 1 week, lapses of time can be used to build relationships, additionally that the elections make more sense, there are some who make elections for everything even if it does not matter at all in the history

For example, most science fiction writers of the “golden age” did not rise above the standard for those times level of tabloid reading. Nevertheless, Asimov, Heinlein, Sprague de Camp, etc. are still published today.

That's kind of an unfair assessment, for several reasons. The authors listed were typically "writing down" to be published in pulp sci-fi monthlys, aimed at the general populace. Who, let's be honest, were looking for exactly that. Dumbed down writing doesn't always make for a bad story. But it does sell to people who may not have the education level required to read something more, well, advanced. And let's be honest, most people want to pay the bills. In that time period, it was primarily looked down on by snobs who felt that anything not aimed at their level of culture and education was trash, just like the people it was aimed at.
