I always let a game go for a few updates before I try it. too many times v0.01 comes out, and is abandoned as quickly as it started

That's right. I do a bit the same. I prefer games that have regular updates and those that are finished. It's so frustrating to start a game you like and then find out it's been abandoned.

More than the first update. minimum 2 or 3 before i play it and it must have vaginal sex and incest tag.

I just can't play pure vanilla games. I need at least incest minimum for me to play a game now. There is almost no reason to play a first release copy of a game. It's not going to have the main girls sex scenes yet.

What criteria do you use to choose your games to play? (e.g. description of the content, Pictures from the game, user rating etc.)
a mix of tags, description, and game images, alongside occasionally reading the comment sections. I exclusively play Ren'py for the most part, and theres certain tags I DESPISE, so if I see them theres a 50/50 I avoid it entirely, but I may check the comments to see if the dev just added it in an easily avoidable (not skippable, AVOIDABLE, as in it doesn't happen period if you don't choose it) way. I also always check the images, because (especially when it comes to 2d) there are some styles I just cannot stand. I also tend to check the changelogs just to get a general idea of game length, no point in playing something that just released its first demo.

male protag, creampie, romance, pregnancy, no multiple protags or ntr. apart from the tags, the stills gotta not look weird. everything else doesn't really matter.

tags and preview pics. for tags i usually look for old man-hot young woman, dilf, loli, incest, ntr (only with old man), vaginal sex, animated (a big plus). if i see some of those tags, i see the preview pics and give it a shot. but not many quality games with my preferences, most get abandoned or the quality of renders and story is crap

Tags, pics, description etc. as other people have said are good.

But an odd thing I really like is pictures of in-game menus, because they can give a lot of info about what kind of scenes are available and what the gameplay is like.
How grindy is it, if there a different variations of scenes, stats e.g. shamelessness/exhibition can indicate if a game has a focus on or just a single scene on certain tags.

On the opposite end, if the pictures only show the middle of scenes and have absolutely nothing of the gameplay, then I'll usually put off playing them.

The type of game is a big factor for me. I am almost a renpy and visual novel exclusivr player.

If they're still ongoing games in look at the history of how often it updates, if every update has content, and if it's been dragging stuff out. Besides that I look at tags, models, reviews, and future plans if the dev has layed those out.

First of all patch frequency, nobody like abonded and slowly updating games and of course such tags as bdsm, anal, pregnancy, rape, bondage would be an advantage. Also i like sandbox without hard grind

male prot, anal, maledom
No ntr,femdom, trans.

That does not have ntr
share
female domination
male submissive
female protagonist
scat
complex sandbox (there are few that are easy)
RPG
If I see that it has what I mentioned, I don't play it

First, pictures.
Second, plot and themes.

Extended, detailed reviews on F*95. Here, alas, there is no criticism of this level. And to write such a review is a serious task. Sometimes it takes an hour and a half to create such a text, a longread. Since clip thinking prevails nowadays, creating a longread is a thankless task. Besides, it is easier to read reviews of one or two sentences.
But for me, this is the main criterion for choosing a game.
Graphics is not an argument, there are projects with excellent graphics, but flushed down the toilet by developers for various reasons.
And tags - some are in my personal blacklist.

Usually start with the tags, it must have at least one of my tier 1 tags (incest, loli, futa, bdsm, fisting), but 2 or more is better, then I'll do a quick scan over the other tags, see if there's a combination that interests me or suggests interesting possibilities, then check the title (again for interesting setup or situation), vet the preview images for quality or jankiness, read the description, and check for censorship.

There are a few red flags where I won't touch a game or at best will mark it to come back to later:
  • low version number/few updates
  • janky images
  • dodgy or badly written English in the description
  • low star rating
I'm not totally against picking up an abandoned game, as in some cases there's a good reason for a delay between updates, but one's still coming, or it might be 90% complete and just needs a few loose ends tying up.

However there are days when I say to myself "let's roll the dice!" and I'll just grab the first thing with a pretty preview image!

1. Tags
2. Version number
2. Concept of the game
3. Images
4. Rating
Mine is the same except i don't look at the rating. Sometimes take note of negative comments, though.

Art needs to be decent. If the faces are hideous, the rest don't really matter, I can't continue.
The gameplay needs to respect my time and effort. I don't want to be solving puzzles, and I don't want to be repeating mindless actions. If you can make a mini-game grindy but fun, all good.
The characters need to be at least a little interesting, even if the overall story doesn't make sense.

Art, Tags, completed status, reviews.
Though I feel like its a bit random what I decide to play after that
