This is the ONLY forum I participate in and I have always respected the site. I've never criticized (and yet there's plenty to criticize). I have nothing against you, and I won't say anything bad about the site. Again, I'm not angry or anything like that. I just can't sit idly by while my work is stolen and shared without my consent.
what you do here, and why sites like this exist imo, essentially runs the same function as promoting the game.
piracy and leaks are inevitable, you'll never be rid of it. but without all of this, I'm 100% you would not have any hope of getting a fraction of the number of paying supporters you currently have.
fighting this can actually be detrimental.

it's because of all the discourse and the fact that your game leaks or is available here, that your game gains notoriety. the more of which it gains, the more likely you are to gain paying supporters.
it's literal interest.

it's your choice. leave if you want. but you'll cut a part of what makes people interested in your game, as very few devs discuss their games in the public as openly and often as you do.

think of it like youtube; ad revenue is shit for most content creators, as they can't get the viewership numbers, but they keep putting in the effort, because the more views, the more people are likely to join their patreon or whatever.
it's very comparable to your case. your game will get leaked, but that doesn't necessarily translate to less paying supporters.
but when you keep making the game and communicating with the people, you're all the more likely to gain more.

think of the flipside: you leaving has basically no impact on this site. it won't stop people from leaking your game. it may change a policy, but that again will not stop the game from getting leaked elsewhere. and then what?
the only loser in this could be you.
so think this through again, please.

I don't understand the aggressiveness at all, I'm not picking on anyone. I'm not angry or having a tantrum. I'm telling you calmly, very calmly, that I accept your decision to let my game leak, but that I won't take part in it. I'm not looking for drama, I'm just being honest and saying things clearly. Once again, I respect the site and the admins/mods. Please calm down. Thank you.
I really want to make it clear that I don't hold a grudge against anyone, nor do I have any rage towards the site or even those who leaked my game.
I'm just saying that I won't be taking part in any of this.
So please, calm down. I wish you all a very good continuation.

P.S.: I know perfectly well that my game will continue to leak and that's just the way it is, I can't help it, and I'm not even trying to avoid it.

I'm not taking it out on LC. I know very well who leaked my game.
I'll say it again, I'm not picking on anyone.

I'm surprised by the aggressiveness when all I'm asking for is calm. As I understand the decisions of the site and of those who want the leaked game, please also understand my approach.

"We didn't leak the game. We're just letting everyone else know it was leaked, and making it easier for them to access the leak by linking to it from here so that we get the traffic and not another site."

LC wants their cake and eat it. They want to be able to distribute your game, have the clout of your game draw people to LC as one of the few 'official' channels to access public versions of your game, and they want to be able to get the traffic of people looking for leaks to LC over other sites.
They're just businessmen doing business, and by leaving you're making them look bad, which is bad for business (albeit probably not by much). At the end of the day, no one wants to look like the bad guy, so it serves them to grave dress the situation by making you seem like you're overreacting.

Folks, Ketzal will make his choice. He's just as human as we are. I don't exactly agree with his method, myself, but I'm not going to criticize him for it, either.

That said...
@ketzal You don't have to take this advice but I recommend you at least take a few days to think things through before attempting to delete your account. As a fellow Dev to another Dev, it actually can be harmful when you leave a site filled with your fans, paying and non-paying customers.

So take it easy on him and on Staffs. This is technically our disagreement.

You're right. And as I feel that things are taking on a proportion a little too... exaggerated, I'm going to wait 7 days before deleting my account. I'll discuss it with my subs and the people here. Then I'll make my decision.

Could you stop the deletion of my account? I can't find a place to stop it.
Thank you for coming back to me calmly.

idk what is going on, but if there are those who are being dicks towards you, they are wrong. your game is awesome. you could easily spurg out like some devs when an early version of their game gets leaked (or just leaked in general), but from what i have seen in the past, you are actually really chill. please just ignore the assholes, they are not worth your time.

I for one did not wish to convey aggression towards your choice.
I simply wanted to point out that your choice may not be in your best interest.
basically you leaving bears little to no impact to this site. you'll do a disservice to your fans and you're likely to damage the thing you're trying to protect.

every dev wants a return for their effort, and rightfully so. but you have to understand that piracy will always happen and scales along how popular your game is.
you game leaked, and it was placed into the OP here. but you lost nothing. but you've probably gained more interest, because the update was great. it just happened a bit earlier.

large game companies spend millions to combat piracy, yet the returns are virtually non-existent. the games always get cracked and the people who pirate games will keep doing so. it's a waste of money.
you leaving, is wasted opportunity and tool to generate interest for your game. it's a waste.

You're right on all counts. I've been in IT for a very long time, and I know that piracy can in some cases serve a cause and benefit devs. But why leak the alpha of a game that's going to be released for free 10 days later? That's just what I find so hard to understand.
I respect everyone, even the site, but I also have respect for the people who pay for my work.

What a cluster fuck. I toss Ketzal a few bucks a month on one of those subscription websites, but not only so I get the next release a couple of weeks before the general public does. I mainly do it because I want to see SSP continued, and it won't continue if it isn't worth Ketzal's time to keep working on it. I don't know how much he earns from it, but I can tell by the project's superior quality that he puts significant time and effort in. That's time and effort that could be applied elsewhere. Keep screwing around trying to get something for nothing, and you'll wind up with another great project that could have been even better suddenly tagged [Abandoned] and another talented developer who has decided it just isn't worth it anymore. Look around LC and you'll see a lot of that.

You ONLY had to say NO don't publish it.... But you didn't.. So I see your thumbs up and told my moderators its good to go. Again YOU could have stopped it from being here. So for those saying blah blah a pirate site let his alpha game be published.... The DEV had the chance to say NO. I do not want to hear more on this. Subject is closed.

this feels like a whole lot of miscommunication and tempers are now flaring making it worse.
LC side for taking the thumbs up as a good to go when it seemed the emails wasn't read fully . and other side for maybe not reading the mails fully due to they busy getting ready for work on next update.
at this point everyone just needs to go do what they do to cool down then look at the chain of events with less hot eyes.

I'm very calm, and I look at events coolly. I repeat once again that I'm not angry with anyone, and I'm not accusing anyone of anything.

Please stop.

There is no question in your DM, just that you inform me that the game is going to be posted. Should I have said no to your info?

Please stop. Please stop.

The main purpose of sending you a message was to inform you. But the fact that the message was not locked was a way to see if you have any requests. We've worked together for a few years, more than likely, to understand how we do things around here. Staying informative and making compromises with fellow Developers in case there are potential issues. So you making a request, we'd more than likely honor it. If we did not wish to work with Developers, there'd be no 14 days grace period to begin with.

To us, it didn't look like you were calm. It looks as though you accused us of disrespecting you and your work when we had no intention of doing such. Thus this argument started.
@SeveredRealms Really think we should drop this for the time being and leave it at this. Whatever discussions that are needed can be done via DM as it looks like we're getting a few trolls in here. Last thing we need is both of us being disrespected.
