here is the thing. Gen 9 is one of lesser used ones. Gen 8 is used more and with that i am fully able to have 5 characters in one scene (well 5 only in specific circumstances but on average its 4)

Gen 9 assets are truly photorealistic and fapable, this is the future. Some Gen 8 (8.1) HD models with PBR skin also can be good but most of models are still plastic and many faces brings me to "uncanny valley".

Which gen 8 characters have you been looking at? the only time its "uncanny valley" is when its combined with some weird ass emotions bu other than that it is totally useable and looks good.

I've got a 3080 atm. Gonna upgrade to a 5080 asap. If rumors are true it'll launch later this year. But good chance it's just a paper launch and they won't really be available until early 2025

I'm looking forward to the 5000 series too. Isn't it the 5090 that is rumored to be released towards the end of this year though and the rest sometime early next year?
RDNA 4 GPUs were also rumored to be released somewhat soon but it seems that they have slipped into early 2025.

I've heard rumors of only 5080, or 5080 and 5090 this year. Some people are more confident it will be only the 5080.

4090 Nvidia is king right now for gfx cards and is trying their best to compete

4090 is better overall, but is expensive and requires a higher power draw. Depending on what you are trying to build, you will also need to take space requirements into consideration. Cards like the 3080 will run most games as well and be smaller. However if you don't care about raytracing and want to save money, the 7900XT does just as well. I don't know how much real-world performance you would be able to notice with raytracing off on both.
