In my game the brother and older sister have been fucking for years at the start and it's the rest of the family he's going after. All this stuff y'all are mentioning seems like a lack of imagination.

Nothing against your game, but personally I like the treatment of incest as something that's actually taboo- one of the draws of the story is how the characters get past the taboo to enter the relationship. Games where they're already incestuous at the start lose a lot of that punch.

IRL, these situations could take months or years to occur. I don't want to play a game where the MC comes home and it takes hours of game play to start to earn the trust of the rest of the family. One awkward dinner and then breakfast with gets the point across without the excess baggage. I don't mind a bit of a longer lead up to the action, but making it truly realist is not needed. That's partly why these tropes exist, to speed up the plot to get to the point of these games.

It only takes hours of gameplay if the game progresses one day at a time. Which, I do agree, is part of the reason for a lot of these tropes; the dev has to fast-forward progress because a week of in-game time takes 14 updates a month apart and half the playerbase has moved on when there wasn't full penetration in v0.2.

But there's no real reason games have to be like that- do we really need to see each day of events start with the MC waking up after the previous night of events? Just space things out- make it clear that time is moving, we're seeing the interesting stuff, and there may have been a week of nothing special going on between Event 3 and Event 4.

(Also solves the general weirdness of "MC met six people on his first day of school and by Day 3 they're all best friends for life and/or passionately in love".)

We do play different games... it's just so many of them have the same tropes that they start to be less fun.

I've played games like this, and I agree, it can make it seem more realistic when the time skips multiple days between events, as long as the dev does a good job of getting that time lapse across to me.

One variation I don't see often is the one where the couple learns much later they're related, like married a couple who are really siblings. More "realistic" in a way, but also needs to be set up. You have work through the backstory to this point, explaining why they are separated, live close enough to have met, and yet don't know they're related. Not impossible, but it takes some effort. Then how is it revealed to them. And when in the story does the revelation occur, as presumably the VN wants to go forward with this, so the revelation has to happen near the beginning, and can't be avoided by player choices.

The only one I dislike with a passion is when the mc is sleeping with literally no cover over him (sometimes no underwear either... so stupid lol.)

This is only acceptable if the game is a parody and absurd with these tropes because that's funny. Something like The Two Sides Of Love did that well but don't do that throughout the game then randomly sprinkle in serious moments and now I'm meant to feel bad for characters.
