Probably as seriously as any other media. If the question is whether these games move me, the answer is typically no. Amuse sometimes if the writing is good.

I take em as seriously as other games - the only purpose of a game is to be fun to play, and there are definitely lots of fun porn games.

I've answered "yes" but I've translated "porn games" by "adult games" (if a game doesn't offer anything more besides naughty stuff then I won't take it seriously). Since I'm supporting a few devs on Patreon and I'm plenty invested in some of these stories, I can't really answer anything else I think ^^

yes but only 7% to 10% form them,
1) it has to have a good story and scenario that you can get into (for escapism)
2) needs to be not just porn, KN, or way to easy to get people in bad at 1st Etc.. to be called a game it had to have choice that matters (for escapism)
3) needs ok to good graphic/models (for escapism)
4) your added Kinks that you in to. (mine, straight-short, loli, incest, horror, supernatural, nuns, school,)

It depends really, if I'm paying/supporting the dev then yes it matters. If I'm just playing it for free my opinion matters very little.

Well, there are some with a very good Story wich I can really lose myself in and forget to look after the time when I play. Just like other games I play. Witcher, WoW or something. But after all it's just a game, even if it is really enjoyable.

This is pretty aligned for me. Almost never, but if the writing is actually good I can at least get a little invested. But that rarely happens.

I think the proper attitude is this: you take any art as seriously as it presents itself. If a VN presents itself as a serious story, than I treat it as such, and judge it as such if its lacking. If the VN clearly only wants to be smut, its plot just a pretext for fapping, than of course I won't take it as seriously.

An interesting - if slightly misleading - question. If the writing is good and story is creative, then I find it easy to get immersed in the VN. The very fact that many (perhaps most) VNs allow the player to choose the name of the MC, and the name chosen is invariably the player's own, is surely an open invitation by the Dev for the player to get personally involved with the story. But this doesn't mean that the story/game (whether porn or not) is being taken "seriously".

That's hardly an argument.

Books like Dune or Lord of the Rings are also quite crazy. Yet they should also be taken very seriously.

I think these games are ways for the player to, in a way, experience crazy situations that won't and shouldn't happen in real life.

This is also the link to aforementioned fantasy books: if you let go some of the constraints of our regular lives and introduce things as crazy as space travel or magic rings, then you may end up with something interesting and exciting.

But @Ferks is correct: if a story pretends to be very good and deep, but doesn't live up to that expectation, then it's more disappointing compared to a game which is hardly more than a porn images slideshow. On the other hand I am personally not really interested in porn images slideshow games and tend not to play those games.
