Do you prefer to play games on release day or wait a while?

Most modern big budget games are so awful, I don't bother with them at all anymore. The vast majority of new games I get are indies, which I rarely hear about ahead of release. It's word of mouth post-release which gets me to check them out nearly every time.

Sometimes I just want to try a game out to see how it is, and they after that I'll wait a few updates for more content.

Like I said before downloading the same game every moth for barely five minutes of content isn't worth it.

For commercial games I usually wait till most DLC and it's been patched.

depend on game and on mod if its ready, but usually i wait till its final version am not fan of replaying same stuff over and over, that makes me loose interest and put game on side.
every new game that comes also always goes on 1y probation list. bout half survive, but still ton remain.
so in short wait is not a problem too many games, too many updates on side.

I am late to this party, but will throw my opinion in there (for some extra coins)

This has evolved over the years. Especially after Minecraft started the "pay to alpha test" paradigm (I am guilty, I was one of the first 100k to buy that game directly from Notch. I have had to migrate my account like 4 times.).

Now also, with Steam and other having such DEEP discounts only a few years after realease, I now wait.

That said, I am buying Elden Ring DLC day one. Some companies earn my repect and I know I will like that one.

At least with Minecraft the alpha was really cheap and clearly described as such. I feel that's quite different from modern games that are supposedly complete products, cost 70 bucks and then are completely unfinished and poorly designed.

I'm playing on the release, if I liked it, I'm waiting for updates, if not, then maybe I'll give you another chance in a year or two years
If I don't like it, I'm not playing it at all...

I always wait a few days, one part is because of the number of times I've been let down from promises. The other part is because maybe releases are pretty scuffed due to unforeseen issues and it usually takes a few hotfixes for it to be playable.

For porn I wait, release often isnt done, non porn either release or when I can if I wanted the game, if it wasnt a big deal Ill see if its worth it

I wait for awhile that way most game breaking bugs will be ironed out before i get to play said game

i always for a while, i got burned too much on a few AAA games, then I swore to myself that I could wait

Day 1 if I'm caught up AND if they have my top tags. Wait to see the ratings if the tags are meh or I've got enough on the go.

I'm definitely in the school of "Watch and wait." I try to give games a good month or so before I decide to invest in them

I did in the past, but in the last years I wait for discounts.
The additional time also helps with ironing out bugs, which has become a standard of the modern gaming industry.

Wait for updates, patches etc.
Every single time, every game needs fixes.
If you didn't know, even Diablo 2 had a bunch of post launch patches.

If the game concept is very interesting, I'm the "Early access" guy. With all other games, I wait a couple of days after release and watch carefully the reviews. If they are mostly positive, I'm in.
