Do you prefer games with multiple choices that affect the story or a linear story where choices don't affect anything?

Meaningful choices. With the way games get released, the thing that annoys me the most are choices that look like they are going to matter, but the game ends up in the same place no matter what you do.

choices can make or break a game, personally i prefer linear unless the choices have meaningfull branches

i prefer games that have multiple choices that affect the story. i avoid kinetic novel games

Both have their pros and cons, and I think it really depends on what type of game it is and what story the writer is trying to convey.
I prefer actual, meaningful choices that affect the story, but I can definitely understand the appeal of linear games.

I can go for either. What annoys me is when a game has choices and there are objectively "wrong" options, like ones that just lock you out of content without showing you anything unique to make up for it.

I play both, but prefer a linear story. I like to see all content in 1 playthrough.

For games i normally prefer choice, but it gets annoying to have to keep retracing your steps to get all the content, so for these games i tend to prefer limited or no choice.

i like meaningful choices, but honestly when it's just good/bad i prefer to have indicators and not have it be hidden from me what it would affect. minigames are cool but majority are skipped because they simply have this feature to appease a wider audience which imo kinda sucks

I like choices when they allow you to make the story yours, choose whether to go after a LI, opt in or out of some kinks, be more or less of an asshole,... But I hate when the choices lock you out of content, like totally different paths, when you are forced to chose if you go out tonight with a or b. When the developer proudly says "you'll need multiple play through to get all the content". Dev, if you wanted to make three different games, be my guest, but I am here just to play one now! I am OK if there are two somewhat parallel stories, like mean and wholesome, because then I play them at the same time (set of saves A and set of saves B). But if you need a degree in Astrophysics to see all the branches, I am out.

I prefer games with choices that affect the story rather linear story with no choices. For me, it is the difference between playing and reading a vn.

i like games with a little bit of choice, but not the ones where i have to play the whole thing like 5 times to fill up the gallery

I prefer games where choices matter, and by this, I don't mean choices that lead to pointless dead ends or stupid choices that loop back around to the main story anyway, if a choice doesn't branch off into its own separate path then it's not a choice it's just a crappy diversion.

Choices are ok as long as it's clear what the consequences are to that choice.
Many of the games have way too many all of a sudden, it's like the dev suddenly figured out how to make the code and then pepper them everywhere to hone skills or something.

well, yes, otherwise sometimes in 1 game you need to make 50 different choices to get 1 changed scene)

I like games with choices, but sometimes when there are too many of them, you may miss something

I always forget to save before taking the wrong path.

I mainly prefer games to pick one or the other and stick to it, honestly. A game that doesn't have meaningful choices or just gives up asking your opinion after chapter one is kinda disappointing
