Do you prefer games with multiple choices that affect the story or a linear story where choices don't affect anything?

up to two endings/paths is acceptable. it have more fun than one linear path

I prefer the linear. Lets get to the action, I'm playing an adult game for a reason. If paths are just good choice and bad choice, its not that fun either. Let me make small decisions to 'customize' my expierence. I love it when games let me change pet names, place names, etc.

On Average i prefer linear, because most VN´s just fail at making the "multiple" choice thing for the paths interessting.
Or worst case, you pick another choice and the outcome is still pretty much the same.
I personally prefer it if the game has a system were different "anwsers" you can give dont necessarily give you another "Path" but rather Spice up things/ Add to the current narrative of the game itself.

I remember a game where you could randomly chat up a chick at a Gasstation, to basically have a quickie with her in the back of your car, and the whole thing even being an option was depending on you just anwsering a question Impolite/Cocky.

//Objectively speaking, it´s the same with Sandbox games, it all depends on how it is done, but alot of Devs have a tendency to slap a Tag like "Multiple Endings/ Sandbox" on it without really knowing if either of these things are within the limits of what they can actually pull off to a satisfactory level.

It´s a "Bite off more than you could chew" issue i see with creatives alot in general.

I like multiple storylines, but that kind of game usually needs an unlocked gallery for me.

Sometimes I prefer a linear story where choices don't affect anything, and sometimes the opposite.

What grinds my gears is when choices lock out content and you bee to reload a previous save.
I have to agree.

multiple choices that are meaningful. why should i have to play a clicking simulator. it's kinda a pet peeve of mine when devs make a game where there's only one choice and you have to click the single only choice repeatedly.

I like choices, but with chance of seeing the content you miss

I only like choices if they actually make a difference in the story. Definately where there is a dark path option.

Multiple choices that affect the story, but a Mod to shows all paths at once. No time for playing games over and over.

That or a good linear story where your choices change dialog and content of some scenes (fe. maldom or romantic), so that ,if you want, you can get every scene in one playthrough.

Choices. If there aren't it's a kinetic novel, not a game. See my signature.

I personally am somewhere in the middle. I do like me a good harem but if it's good and very obvious about lock-outs for paths I can enjoy that too. I do agree with several other posters that most devs get too ambitious with paths and then make them all merge at some point which is frustrating.

Choices are good when you get a completly different storyline, not just one scene differen here and there.

If a game is good and there is a WT I'll play it and shut my mouth ;)

I love the multiple choices games, and every choices have a different path or outcome

It is multiple choices for me with diffrent outcomes. Mass Effect was awesome in that.

If its a really good game and paths are meaingful then yes. But for a meh game I can never be bothered to replay for just a few new images.

all i can say is, it depends on the game

A game where the choices don't matter might as well not have any prompts.
