Certain games are amazing in 2d. But as a rule, 3d is much better. Though I will say I'd rather play a good 2d game over a mediocre 3d game any day

Any. As long as it looks reasonably good. But without good writing it doesn't really matter.

really depends on art quality. if the art quality's the same level, 3D. but i'll take 2D quality over 3D horrorshow anytime
Agree 100% In fact, there are some 2D VNs that are top notch and with the advent of AI you get into another comparison altogether.

I can't even vote in the poll it's too tough for me. I feel that 2D hand drawn goes crazy, but so do 3D renders, some people have amazing detailing. You can also be more expressive in 2D with a specific palette too.

The best 2d game is better than every 3d game out there, but your average 3d game is better than the average 2d game.
Honestly this might be the right answer. I was conflicted but I think you kind of sold me.
On average I like most 3d games, but 2D can portray some scenes with more detail than a 3d game ever could. There are some Taffy Tales scenes that live rent free in my head.

Both, honestly, as long as it looks good. Never really felt that uncanny valley people are mentioning.

All the way 3D, if the game's worth it it can have 2D gameplay but 3D renders at least

slightly prefer 2d but if the game is good and the animations are decent. chances are im gonna be into it. 2d or 3d

I like both but if they don't have animation then 2D, it feels weird if a 3D game is static

I prefer 3Dcg, but there are some good 2d games: Summertime Saga, What a legend! Our red string...

3D only cause its probably easier to develop and the game is more likely to be completed. With 2D games, its alot of effort to draw all that content and devs are more likely to call it quits.

The vast majority of players will say 3D/3DCG, but yeah, 3DCG is unbeatable.
