discussion Do you download and play games immediately when they are first released? Or do you wait for second, third or more releases before playing?

With a lot of games out there, do you take time to download and play them as soon as you see them? If yes or no, what are things you look for? Game file size? Screenshots? Potential content?

I personally would rather wait until a second release, just to see if the developer has the intention and ability to follow up the original idea.

Personally, I prefer to play completed games over demos, but I do know a lot of people would rather have progressive demo to see how the game progresses and how stuff are being added.

And I usually look for completed games that have content that I like, if the screenshots are appealing, I download and play it.

To me it really depends on the type of game, if it seems to have an engaging gameplay element I'll give it a shot early. Otherwise I'll skip until a few updates have been rolled out

I am constantly downloading game updates, which I am closely following the development of. If the game gets the status "completed", then I wait for some time until the bugfixes are released.

It depends on the excitement level I suppose. If it seems really promising and has some content, I'm happy to try a new release just to see if it's something I should be following. If I'm on the fence, I'll wait until it's fleshed out more to make my decision.

I usually wait a few releases before downloading any game and take a look at the screenshots and the changelog to see if i'm interested. I don't want to download a game just to finish it in under 10min

No. Sometimes they gather virtual dust on my HDD for literally years, before i finally try them... just to delete after that, because at that point game was already abandoned years ago.

I normally play them when they are first released because most of them end up being abandoned anyways, so sometimes waiting for more content (much less completion) is not rewarded. Additionally, by playing early versions you can provide suggestions. Devs are not always open to them, though.

I normally wait for 3-4 updates then try it out.
If I like it then I will wait till it is completed then try again, if I still like it then I will give the dev some money.

I no longer support any dev because way to many games/VN's get abandoned.

Even providing support is no guarantee that they will really work the game until they finish it. That is why I don't like this pseudo-patronage system. Few developers are consistent with both updates and quality.

Depends on several Factors.
Do I know the Developer and thier prior work.
What Tags are included in the current release.
Does the Genre, art or story sound very appealing.
How Horny am I at the current Moment.

Usually I'll wait at least two versions between downloads, more if it's updated once a month, and at least for version 2 for new games. But some games I'll go for every update if I'm very interested in them. I also check the changelogs so I can skip mostly technical updates and wait a few versions after reworks or if I'll need a new save, to wait for it to stabilize.

I like to wait at least a year or until there is a good amount of content available. I don't mind "early access" but I also don't just want a teaser or something that might not end up continued.

Typically wait for some established patch cycles, then give it a shot. Some i keep up with per update, others i do every few. rarely do i try a 0.1 or equivalent.

I would only try out a 0.1 game if it's a game that I've been waiting a while to play and that is rare. Normally would wait until the third update or higher to play. Too many times have I downloaded a game that took while to download but with less than 10 minutes of playtime even taking time to read the context of the story. Hell, sometimes it's filler added to the story after the first 5 minutes of actual context of the story.

Definitely games that have multiple updates to them. Well, unless the game in it's early stages has alot of content.

If the game looks interesting enough I'll give the initial release a shot, but generally I don't bother until a few releases in.
